30k Death guard question - orbital assault.

Hopefully this is the right area for my question....

So, I got all cavalier and bought the forgeworld legiones astartes book - not the istvan campanion book (didn't quite realize the special rules for legions was in there /facepalm).

Whilst considering my list, I figured I should check around for a synopsis of deathguard 30k stuff.... and behold.... deep strike is a no no with death guard ( according to 1d4chan). I really like the idea of drop pods, so I cringed when I saw that. However, after hearing about orbital assault - that you can take with a praetor - it got me wondering if it can over ride this restriction?

Any help wold be appreciated. I fully intend on buying the istvaan book, but I would like a glimpse of what to expect in regards to it.

Thanks!

30k Death guard question - orbital assault.

You really need to get yourself the Isstvaan Campaign Legions book if you're planning to play a Death Guard legion army.

Saying that, although fluff wise the various Legions have preferred tactics and methods of fighting, none of the Legion rules restrict you to that particular method. (I think the Iron Hands come closest with their rules.)

The Rites of War really determine how a Legion army will fight and the Legions all have their own Rite of War to represent their preferred method along with the general Rites from the Crusade Army List book. You'll also see in that book, that you need to take the Orbital Assault Rite of War to take Drop Pods as dedicated transports as they are not an option for almost all of the units.

I've heard someone say that 'you can do whatever in 30k' - I guess this explains what they meant. I have to ask further though, if you don't take the deathguard rite of war, does it lock you out of deathguard specific items and units?

Oh and just for kicks, here's a phot of the scheme I'm going with; it was pretty easy to do. I apologize for the orientation...
