Sisters of Battle alternate models

Hi, I'm considering using Sisters of Battle as an allied force to my Grey Knights, mainly to give them some decent anti-armour (Battle sisters with melta, immolators, exorcists) but also because fluff wise I feel it kinda makes sense.

I was going to use the FW exorcist but it seems to have been removed from the site so I might just use SM whirlwinds as I'm not a massive fan of metal with plastic kits.

This got me to thinking of some alternate models for the sisters themselves as some of the sculpts are really beginning to show their age (IMHO).

I was thinking maybe with the sisters of avelorn box with the addition of a tac squad could be combined to kit bash some pretty unique looking sisters?

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Sisters-of-Avelorn

I then thought about possibly modifying a box of WHFB dark elves witches to use as Repentias as again I'm not a huge fan of the models nor the fact that there's so few sculpts.

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Dark-Elves-Witch-Elves

what do you guys think? could it work?

I'd be careful starting from Maiden Guard, they're a lot skinnier and flimsier than most bolters or bolter-arms They'd certainly be unique, but the conversion would be a fair bit of work.

The biggest problem is that the Space Marine bolters special weapons will look absolutely huge and chunky in the hands of those elf models, and 40K already has a problem with oversized weapons as it is.

You can see the difference in bolter sizes in this picture:

Using the SM arms will make them look like gorillas. Using Elf or Eldar arms leaves them carrying a gigantic gun, lol.

If you do end up using SM bolters, I recommend cutting them down, perhaps like this: http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/5/676106_md-Cut%20down%20bolter%20for%20Sisters%20and%20Guard.jpg
They'll probably still end up looking chunky from the top though. The IGuard and Space Marine models are so much thicker than elfdar models, and the metal monopose Sisters models have the "advantage" of the weapon being essentially part of the model, so it can be held tighter to the body on the figure than you can easily accomplish with plastic multiparts.

The only way to get around that is ridiculously time consuming, and involved slicing the weapons down their axis and filing the insides down then gluing them back together. If you're adept at recasting, you could do it once and make a bunch at once though.

Thanks for the feedback

hmmm I guess your right. the bolters would look gigantic. That last picture really emphasises that.

I wonder if using bolt pistols as a stand in for botlers would work better, at least ascetically.

Fantome wrote:
Thanks for the feedback

hmmm I guess your right. the bolters would look gigantic. That last picture really emphasises that.

I wonder if using bolt pistols as a stand in for botlers would work better, at least ascetically.

The new Dreamforge Black Widows are a really nice kit and all you would need is perhaps a good source of heads and weapons. Here's one with a bolter for comparison. Zoom in on it and you'll get a better view, the thumbnail for forums looks kind of crap.

Spoiler:

As you can see, the bolter is kind of big for most people's taste, but the models themselves look good and come with arms that can hold a variety of weapons (the weapons are separate so you can mix and match)

All you would need is a good source of 40k ish looking weapons that aren't as big as the girls are and you would be set with some nice looking models.
