Space Marine Ranks?

I'm currently writing up a fanfic, and I started wondering how the Marines adress eachother in a Tactical Squad. I know that 'normal' Marines say 'Brother Matthew' to eachother, but what about the Sergeants, or the guy with the special weapons?

Space Marine Ranks?

In general in the fluff, they would add the rank to the 'Brother-' appelation. So 'Brother-Sergeant', 'Brother-Captain', 'Brother-Librarian' etc.

High-ranking leaders might be referred to as 'Lord' instead. Although that one will vary from Chapter to Chapter, depending on how seriously they take their chain of command.

Space Marine Ranks?

It will also depend on how uptight the marines are, and whether they're in combat or not. Brother "name" for everyone might be fine in a relaxed setting, while they'd use the titles in official speech. Probably just names in combat, at least within the squad. Everyone already knows who the sarge and special/heavy weapons troopers are, no need to spend words on that when every second counts.

Re:Space Marine Ranks?

The complete list of ranks in a codex adhering chapter are as follows

Chapter Master>Captain>Sergeant>Brother>Initiate.

Chaplains and Librarians have their own rank system.

Master of Sanctity>Reclusiarch>Chaplain

Chief Librarian>Epistolary>Codicier>Lexicanum

Librarians and Chaplains will defer command to Captains and experienced Sergeants, only taking full command if there are none better suited due to their role as advisers.

Chaplains are also > Librarians of equivalent rank in the command structure of the Chapter.

Experience and age are also taken into consideration if a question of command ever emerges. A marine of less experience but greater rank may defer to a more experienced Marine even if he is technically his subordinate.

Or just Namus for a basic marine.

The difference between Brother Sergeant and Sergeant Namus would be situational. Brother is less formal, rank included is more formal.

For formal occasions such as award ceremonies then full titles like Brother-Sergeant Namus, 1st squad, 2nd company, Hero of Fistipol, holder of the sacred chain... would be used.
