I am currently making a mark6 space marine squad from using the parts provided in the devastator, assault and tactical squads but i also ordered 20 umbra pattern bolters and those style of backpacks provided just after rogue trader but after thinking about it i realised that even though i have been playing 40k since rogue trader i wasn't entirely sure about what equipment 'corvus' style marines were actually equipped with. so what i want to ask you is what style bolter and back pack (plus any other helpful info you might have) 'corvus' marines were equipped with.

p.s. i cannot seem to remember if it was the old style rhino that mark 6 would be given?
thanks

What do you mean "equipped" with? Astartes wargear isn't standardized. Wearing MK VI doesn't mean you use a specific bolter, it's just whatever you happen to inherit or are issued a freshly made bolter.

Real world: That was the only Rhino produced before 3rd edition, so if you're going for an old skool beaky army that would be the type to use. Fluffwise the current plastic Rhino is the Mars pattern, which I believe was already entering service before the Heresy any therefor before Mk6 armour was created, so either rhino would be fine.

The boltgun in the picture was used on some of the RT era metal beakies but the that's not the Umbra pattern, the Umbra pattern is Forge World's update of the boltgun used on the RTB01 beakies and on the that old Rhino. (I believe the Forge World Tigrus boltguns are the update of the version in the picture, albeit nowhere near as close as the Umbra is to the RTB01).

The backpack pictured is the old Mk7 backpack, tho Forge World has resurrected it as Mk4, this is what an actual Mk6 backpack looks like:
http://www.bitzbox.co.uk/product_info.php/space-marine-sternguard-veterans-backpack-p-10071

thank you, i will use the current rhino (even though the old rhinos are quite cool, i loved them during rt). i do have several of those sternguard back packs so i will probably ress mould them to give to my squad ( although i do have some without the laurels and the skull)
what i mean 'equipped with' is what bolter/backpack would of been given (the lastest model)to them when that type of armour (mk6) came out. for instance when mk 7 armour came out according to fluff they where given (if not otherwise inherited) the type of bolter you get in the current tactical squad.
thanks again

p.s. is anyone sure if it was the umbra pattern bolter?

Wargear is interchangeable and Astartes regularly run around with mis-matched power armor. Their greaves may be MK VI while their breastplate is MK III, their helmet may be MK II while their gauntlets are MK IV, etc.

This for example is the Ultramarines 2nd Company as of M41.99999_. Notice how nobody has standard wargear and is wearing various combinations of relic gear. Plus Aquila was deployed during the Horus Heresy, so it's not "new" and all the Chapters have had ten millennia to stock their armories with. However IIRC, the older marks excluding MK I Thunder Armor are still in slight production. There's no standardized kit, this isn't the Guard. A scrub marine just inducted into 9th Company may be running around in Corvus armor while another may be wearing MK VII Aquila but with MK IV greaves for some reason.

The art for the armour fluff article in WD129 was seemingly the concept sketches for the armour, the sketches included guns. Interestingly the Mk4 armour had a similar gun to the Mk7, whilst Mk5 and Mk6 had the RTB01 'Umbra' style, I'm thinking the RTB01 style was maybe intended to be a stripped down (hence lack of 'decorative' casing) wartime economy version introduced alongaside Mk5 armour, with the Mk4 pattern boltgun being reintroduced alongaside Mk7 once the traitors were thrown back from Terra.

Hence why everyone is saying your choice of bolter is personal preference. Bolter patterns are generally not improvements of one another. They're just different forge worlds or different STC fragments. Sure some might have slightly further range or sync better with a certain tactical display or any number of other minor differences, but in reality, both chapters and legions generally just used the bolter of whatever forge world they had ties with. Personally, I think the umbra-ferrox pattern fits mk. VI armor the best.
