[1500] - Necron - CAD + Living Tomb = How to not make friends

Hey All,

Just playing around making 1500pt lists, and came up with this one. It is probably not the most viable list, nor would it be ones to make friends with, but I think it could be pretty effective if done properly.

CAD List (800pts)

HQ - Szeras
Troop 1 - Immortals (x10) [Szeras goes here and gives +1T]
Troop 2 - Warriors (x20) [Held in reserve]
Troop 3 - Warriors (x20) [Held in reserve]

Living Tomb (700pts) [Due to formation, held in reserve]

Obelisk
Monolith
Monolith

My thought would be, Turn 1, only Szeras and Immortals are on the board. Hide them behind cover, and give the Immortals +1T to avoid getting wiped out.
Turn 2, the Obelisk comes in, and depending on board layout / opponent position, drop it down. Depending on remaining reserves, the Monoliths drop in within 12" of Obelisk, and bring a unit of 20 warriors with them. Potentially, if reserve rolls for the Mono's go right, you can have them both come in turn 2 with the Obelisk, and then bring the warriors with them.

That has the potential for a lot of fire power being concentrated on one specific spot. In addition, to having 14 hull points at 14 armor with Living Metal and IWND.

And to bump this list to 1750pts, all you would have to do is at the C'tan.

Quick verification though, if when rolling reserves on turn 2, and one (or both) of the monoliths do not come in, do you have to roll for the warriors in reserve? If you do, and they come in, do the warriors just come in along my board edge?

Thoughts?

Yeah I've been discovering the same thing with Ghost Arks, I've stopped including Nightscythes in my armies and just going for Ghost Arks, 30 ST4 Gauss Shots, then the potential to charge is pretty amazing.

If successful, and if you don't have the warriors come in thru the monolith (due to their reserves not being successful), then you must deploy the warriors from your board edge like normal reserves.

The monoliths can't pull the warriors through the turn they arrive due to the wording of eternity gate, or at least I don't think so. Eternity gate happens at the beginning of the movement phase, so you would have had to roll for reserves for the warriors before that point. Also illiminor only has a 1/3 chance to give +1 toughness. A ton would have to go right for this to all work. Addtionally as stated with that many warriors you want ghost archs and reclamation legion for relentless, ghost arch to keep the warriors strong.

[1500] - Necron - CAD + Living Tomb = How to not make friends

I'm pretty sure the Living Tomb detachment allows it so that Monoliths can pull a squad of warriors with them.

Here is how it is written:
Tomb Nexus: Immediately after a Monolith from this Formation arrives from Deep Strike Reseave, you can choose one friendly unit with the Necrons Faction consisting entirely of models with either the Infantry or Jump Infantry unit type that is in Reserves or Ongoing Reserves. The chosen unit is placed as if it were disembarking from the Monolith's eternity gate. Any models that cannot be placed are removed as casualties, but the unit is otherwise treated exactly as if it were disembarking from a Transport vehicle.

If I interpret that properly, the formation overrides the wording of eternity gate. Correct me if I am wrong on this.

Ultimately, the warriors would be much weaker, with only 5+ RP and no support from a ghost ark, but it is made up with the strength of the big armored units around it... I would hope.

Your biggest problem would be coming up against a strong shooting army and a spare board. If you can't hide those warriors, you're boned when they die and the turn ends with you having no models on the board. I can see this going wrong more often than right.
