Actually, I think that these relics are just random items that the Fallen (who don't even exist, move along) had in their possession during the fall of Caliban (which just was a freak accident, nothing to see here) and were charged with some kind of psychic energy. Those of the first legion who fell to chaos can recognize this warp signature, because they carry the same within them.
