Eldar Falcons

I was going through my book again and thought about a use for the falcons. They still have their 6 transport capacity and with their new rule they can deepstrike with no scatter for the first falcon and then the other 2 automatically deepstrike within 4". Deepstrike them with sqauds of Fire Dragons/Dire avengers with BS5 and pop some vehicles or shred some infintry and because deepstrike only counts as moving 6" the falcons can fire all 3 weapons at max BS (being fast vehicles). Seems like it could be a very effective shock squad especially when the falcons pump out 6 starcannon shots, 9 shuriken cannon shots, and 6 pulse laser shots.

Anyone have any opinions on this type of army?

It can definitely work, but there are two main problems:

1. It's a lot of points invested in one trick. If the drop doesn't go perfectly and the Fire Dragons die the next run, it's a lot of points down the tube.

2. It's all dependent on a single reserve roll. An Autarch can help with this, but you can still get unlucky and not have the units come in when you need them to.

For my points/money, I would opt for Wave Serpents to transport Fire Dragons.

I play corsairs, and deep striking falcons has been a staple in my lists for a while.

I actually prefer MELEE units in them. You can't assault out of the falcon, or after arriving from reserves. So, put 2 squads of scorpions, and one of banshees in them, get out and into cover spreading out around the falcons, then kill something dead with the tanks. You now control 1/3 of your average table with 6 units that can threaten every unit in the game in one way or another.

If the squadron could split fire, I'd probably take an aspect host in a Falcon Squadron every game

As it is... well... Some day I'll play in a 3,000+ point game, and this set up will be worth the points.

With pulse lasers and a brightlance on each, there is going to be a viable target.

Use them as mobile artillery, and the melee units will push things away from them as they scoot around killing things.

Actually was thinking of running this, but if you take wave serpents as part of the aspect host, they're BS5...

Also, I discovered I only had two falcons, and you can't get the turrets separate for love nor money, Doh.

Ive run them in a few games. When it works it can be devastating with the FDs unloading - I think one game I took out 2 Chims and a Leman Russ and then shredded the IG guys who got out.

However in another, the field was very packed and they couldnt get in a decent position and were sort of meh.

They are very dependant on terrain, reserve rolls and placement for a large points investment. But as said, when they work, theyre' very powerful.
