MH-8 Sky Lord Prototype (Kitbash: Starwars Tie Fighter Advanced + Dark Talon + Storm Talon)

Hi all!

1st post here! - Which I will allow to be my introduction post as well. Short intro: I work as Art Director at a toy company based here in Denmark. I have been fascinated by the Warhammer worlds since my early teens - Esp. the 40k stuff. Back then I did a few figures and a smaller vehicle which I believe was an Eldar Vyper with some figures including a Warp Spider. Since, I have made a custom squad for Space Crusade based on the Grey Knights figures - I believe my friend still has them, but he has since moved to Dubai... (!!).

I should remember to state that I am merely a hobbyist model builder and don't play the actual game

Recently, a couple of Revell Star Wars Tie Fighter Advanced click-together kits were collecting dust in my basement and I was toying with the idea of a kitbash. So I finally bought a Dark Talon and a Storm Talon, some spray paint, glue etc. and I was ready. Here's the back story:

The MH-8 Sky Lord was commissioned for evaluation by the Imperial Navy and although the prototypes showed promising flight characteristics, potent firepower and far superior endurance, the program was cancelled due to manufacturing difficulties and high cost. The Imperial Navy acquisition board shifted focus to other craft such as the Thunderbolt and Lightning.

The Sky Lord was a highly specialized purpose-built craft. Designed to carve through enemy armor with a host of bullet-based weaponry. The MH-8 carries an enormous amount of ammunition in it's central spherical bay, enabling it to provide fire support in an extended period of time. Tactics applied: High speed dive-attacks would saturate the target area and while the Sky Lord would climb out, it would cover it's own back with the 360 degree rotate-able turret that would sustain fire on the target before the next attack dive.

All of the five prototypes built were pressed into service, joining the 4th Special Aeronautic Wing (Know as the SAWs). These elite pilots are assigned to support other Imperial and Space Marine forces engaged in campaigns throughout the systems.

Please see attached images for the final build. C&C welcome! Thanks for viewing!

- GryphonDK

Interesting! I'm glad to see you put those Revell snap kits to good use!

I'm not so sure about the engine nacelles on the side of the cockpit though. I think missile pods or cannons would have fit a little better. Still, outstanding work all the way around!
