Imperial Fist Traits? Tanks/Weapons/Squads etc?

Hi guys, I've finally settled on Imperial Fists being my marine chapter!

However, I'm not really into the fluff... I'm wondering if there are any Imperial Fist 'styles' or 'traits' so to speak, such as Salamanders using Flamers etc?

Maybe certain squads/vehicles that get used more or less by Imperial Fists also?

Thanks!

Imperial Fist Traits? Tanks/Weapons/Squads etc?

Imperial Fists chapter tactics allow you to re-roll ones that you roll on the first shooting roll you make, provided you are shooting a bolter, combi-bolter, storm bolter, bolt pistol, or Heavy Bolter. (Though, not the Bolter relic, "The Primarch's Wrath funny enough).

In addition, as J31c3n mentioned, they get the tank hunters rule as well when shooting at an armored target (be it a tank, or a bunker)

That being said, Tactical Squads, which are comprised mostly of bolter marines, are great. You can also mix in an anti-tank weapon in here, as well as putting a combi-weapon (Flamer, Plasma, Melta, or Grav, your choice) on the sergeant and a special weapon of your choosing as well and combat-squad this unit if you're running it at 10 models strong. Another good unit is a squad of Scouts with Bolters, and camo cloaks. Allows them to use the chapter tactics nicely while still being able to infiltrate in and get a bonus to their cover save.

Lastly, devastators are great at taking advantage of the Chapter tactics, be it four heavy bolters for anti-infantry work on the cheap (re-rolling any 1's to hit) in the heavy support slot, or four lascannons for anti armor work.

I suggest you read up on Imperial Fists history and combat doctrine, and then take a look at the codex to see what you like and go from there.

Best of luck. Take it easy for now.

-Red__Thirst-

IF are a nice force to run with. Sternguard get the bolter drill now.

With Tank Hunters, Dev squads with things like Heavy Bolters(these get the drill too!) and Plasma cannons become more versatile than normal, able threaten transports rather nicely, among other things.

Get those massed tacticals bolters roaring, keep your distance and enjoy.

2 or 3 bare bones assault squads work well for objectives, back field raiding or speed bumping.

But yeah with the battle demi company thing going on thats prolly the way to go if you have enough rhinos/razorbacks I certainly don't ^^

Re:Imperial Fist Traits? Tanks/Weapons/Squads etc?

Imperial Fists are fun if you love dumping your dice cube out, picking up a fair number of those dice, and rolling them again. They are one of the only armies that make running Tactical Squads halfways viable. But really, running Bolter Scouts is just as good if not better. Sternguard getting their ammo buffed through Bolter Drill is always cool. If you run Crimson Fists and take Pedro Kantor, you get ObSec Sternguard. Good luck shifting them off an objective.

Tank Hunters makes regular Devastators quite powerful, and makes other variations of the Devastator Centurion better as well. TLLC+ML Cents WRECK vehicles with ease.

On the note of Sentinel of Terra, don't forget that running SoT lets you run Assault Centurions in Fast Attack and Devastator Centurions in Elites. The benefits of the latter should be obvious (SIX Dev Cent Squads FTW!).

During the Heresy, Rogal Dorn and his Imperial Fists legion were responsible for fortifying the Imperial Palace on Terra.

I started collecting Fists a year ago, at the time I wanted to run lots of fortifications (bunkers, defence lines, weapon batteries etc.) and fill them with devastators and tacs.
IF are the loyalist siege marines. Focus on building, rather then breaking, forts, but good on both sides of the wall.

They work well in a gunline. Tank-hunter Devs, TFCs, ADL/bunker/building to hide in.

If you want some armor, the vindicator is very appropriate. Roll up with some rhinos, blow chunks out of the enemy line with the vindi, disembark some tac squads and mow down the survivors. A LRC/R with some hammernators is icing on the cake in larger games.

Drop pods, as was pointed out, work very well. Consider a hybrid list. Fortify up half your list (full of long range firepower) and drop the other half.

At the end of the day, Imperial Fists are a Codex compliant marine force. You can take and use whatever you like. From a fluff POV, you should weigh in on the slow and tough side, rather then fast, but can include both.
