What would be good rules for squig herds

I like the Idea of fielding squig herds with ork runts in 40k.
Does anyone have a good idea of a "counts as"unit for rules (in any codex)
I feel like they should be beasts. Have some decent str but not that good defence.
Dark eldar beast packs or khore hounds came into mind but I don't think they fit that well.
Anyone else any ideas ?

That is the most used and obvious option but I don't feel that something that could swallow whole a guardsman should be the worse close combat unit in the game.

Beasts, 1 A, S4, T4, with no save. Cheap, maybe 4 points. Accompanied by 2 point grots with single close combat weapons (drugged out so they count as beasts). Each turn the squigs eat D3, if there are ever no geots the squigs move towards and charge nearest enemy or ally.
