Old Player Returning to Black Templars

Hey mates. Looking to go a different direction and start working on a BT Space Marine Army once again, as not only where they my first Space Marine Chapter, I have always been a huge fan of there fluff and how they look on the table-top. With that being said, while I know the new Space Marine Codex is out, I am still not 100% on how effective the new Black Templars are in this edition so any feedback you mates can give me I would greatly appreciate it. Basically:

* Are BT's a Land Raider/Mechanized Army or do more people op for the Black Tide list that was popular in the past?

* Any Characters worth taking? Which ones are not worth Taking?

* Tactics or tips that make BT's more competitive in this edition?

Besides that, this is how I was planning on building my BT models. Will be using the Sanguinary Guard Bolters & CCW's, so that way my Templars will always look like to be on the attack, and I think it fits well with there fluff and I doubt it will cause any issues. Besides that, being a bit OCD when it comes to how my models look, I was debating on giving all my Templars the same Front Torso with the Laurels and Skull on it, but do you think I would be better off with the Aquila across the whole Front Torso or does this one stand out nicely? as it is. Other then that, should I paint the front torso Laurels/Aquila White or do you think a dark Gold would be more appropriate?

I usually put a combi-melta and/or combi-plasma sternguard squad in 1 or two of them. Go for the tanks or MCs. Also, I get my drop pod sitting next to an objective from time to time, so they have to deal with it or I can score some cheap objective points.

As for putting tacticals or crusader squads, they don't do much I'm afraid. The crusaders get shot to death before they can do much assaulting, and the tacticals aren't very well armed for any kind of alpha strike shooting.
