Otherwise, its like 40k before the ridiculous detachments, unbound and the rest of that bunch.

Actually, Strength D is the exact same. There is an optional rule to use a different version of it, but I would argue that the optional version is generally nastier much of the time.

Anyway, no, no formations in 30K. Rites of War are the closest thing, but not really comparable. For example, one of the generic RoW is Orbital Assault. It allows units to take a drop pod as a dedicated transport, but your entire army must be capable of entering the game by deep strike. Exactly. Where 40k formations just give you powerful bonuses with no drawbacks (besides taking certain units that you're probably fine with taking anyway) 30k alternate FOCs/rites of war/etc are true variant strategies, not just more powerful versions of the "normal" stuff. They give you benefits but you pay for those benefits, and you actually have to think carefully about whether or not you want to make that trade.

Also, one other key difference is that 30k "formation" equivalents always modify a single primary detachment. You might get to shift some FOC slots around or whatever, but you're still limited to a primary detachment and an optional allied detachment. The use of the word "Chapter" rather than "Legion", the use of a piece of artwork, not pictures of models, the typos mastercrafted and Boltweapons, and the errors in the list of units (there is no such thing - at the moment - as a 'Legion Squad'.

GW are sloppy sometimes, but not this sloppy.


More importantly, Age of Darkness games doesn't give you a 'slot' to put formations into. You get a force organisation chart - one primary detachment, one allied detachment and one fortification detachment, plus one lord of war at 2000pts plus, and an explicit prohibition on anything else unless taking an agreed variant FOC.

Rites of War do things 'old style' by moving stuff around the FOC, from elites to troops, or from heavy support to dedicated transports, rather than changing the number of 'slots' you have.

And yes, most Rites of War have at least one noticeable downside.

I read through and see mistakes but I also read some codex's with huge mistakes like the old black templar novel. Where they kept switching the two names of the astres and the scouts. Initates and something else.

But like I said I just do not see anyone taking that much time and effor to make it then print it out then take a photo of it from looks like a phone due to no auto focus. I just do not se anyone doing that much work when it is hard enough to get people to do that much work for a paycheck. Then they do not even advertise it to see the troll attempt everywhere. Just made it then placed it somewhere, never to know if people believed it or even found it. Rumours have it that Forgeworld is planning on buffing the underpowered legions up to the level of the other legions in an upcoming update to ensure balance.
