Imperal guard help.

Hello all I'm Brendan, new to playing 40k, but I have seen a lot of games and I really enjoy it.

I have started to collect IG and I am looking for some help with regards how much something's cost points wise.
For example I have two squads of 10 guards men and they are 50 points each, but I want to combin them into a
20 man unit. So does it cost 100 points to have a unit that big.

Another thing I'm not sure on is the heavy weapons squads, they are 45 points base, but are all the heavy weapons they can choose from extra points on tip of that cost, eg heavy Bolter is 10pts.

Any help you can give would be great.

Thanks

You are correct on your observations, in my practice, it's best to put a heavy weapons team in your infantry squads and use the extra models as ablative wounds. heavy weapons squads are too easily sniped out. 6 easily done wounds will take out a 60 point squad when kept as cheap as possible.

If you must take the heavy weapons squad, don't put anything too expensive in there, keep it at heavy bolters or mortars.

Also, be careful about listing the points values here on dakka or any forum. no need to get this great resource a C&D order
