Help with an Inquisition Army

Okay, so I've been trying to get into 40k tabletop gaming for years, now, but every time that I've gotten together a list and started building an army, something came up before I finished and it kind of just fell to the wayside. I've finally got a month or two now where I know that not much is going on, so I plan on building an Inquisition Army with allies (1500 Pts.). So, here's how I want it to go down:

- Chimeras with Warbands inside them and my Warlord in them to act as mobile fire support
- ? Tactical Squads (or pretty much anything for ObSec, I'd be willing to try IG, Storm Troopers, Sororitas, etc.) So which allies would be best to go alongside 2 Chimeras and a Valkyrie? I already have a few Space Marine Tac squads that I can assemble, so those would definitely be a preference.
- ? Valkyrie full of Crusaders (to dash forward, drop off Crusaders to wreck face, then fall back and let Crusaders suicide bomb), possibly with Acolytes for Melta Bombs ?

If you need additional info, the Warbands will be as follows:

Spoiler:

My Warlord, his transport, and his Warband:
Ordo Xenos Inquisitor - totals 129 Pts.
- Conversion Beamer (45 Points)
- Servo-Skulls x3 (9 Pts.)
- Divination Psyker (30 pts.)
- Force Sword (free)
Warband - totals 85 pts.
- Jokaero (35 Pts.)
- Servitor x3 (30 Pts.)
- 2 Plasma Cannons (20 pts.)
- 1 Multi-Melta (free)
Chimera - totals 80 pts.
- Replace Multi-Laser with Heavy Bolter (free)
- Extra Armour (15 pts.)
- Psybolt Ammunition (5 pts.)
- Dozer Blade (5 pts.)

Other Chimera, IC and Warband:
Ordo Malleus Inquisitor - totals 70 pts.
- Hellrifle (15 pts.)
- Psyker (Divination) (30 pts.)
- Force Sword (free)
Warband - totals 85 pts.
- Jokaero (35 pts.)
- Servitors x3 (30 pts)
- 2 Plasma Cannons (20 pts.
- 1 Multi-Melta (free)
Chimera - totals 80 pts.
- Heavy Bolter (free)
- Dozer Blade (5 pts.)
- Extra Armour (15 pts.)
- Psybolt ammo (5 pts.)

Help with an Inquisition Army

Well, space marines probably fit best with the Ordo Xenos and Grey Knights would make sense for ordo malleus.

But if you want Obsec go for regular SMs-they're cheaper and come with the glory that is the dedicated transport drop pod.

Re: Help with an Inquisition Army

Inquisition can be one of the most fun armies because they are basically a big bag of dirty tricks, but what you are planning poses some problems.

Your Inquisitors and henchmen are listed as having primarily heavy weapons (plasma cannon, multimelta, Jokaero weapons, Hellrifle, Conversion Beamer) and none of the models are relentless or slow and purposeful. If you load them in your inquisitorial Chimera, then the five passengers firing out of the hatch are going to snap shoot every time the Chimera moves. For full effect, the Chimera's will have to be stationary.

Also, keep in mind that the Valkyrie is not an Assault Vehicle, so if you plan on loading a close combat unit in there, they will have to jump out, stand around being shot at, and charge on the next turn. Also, Crusaders are FANTASTIC defensive units. Their 3++ storm shields are great for soaking up wounds, however for attacking they are pretty terrible. If you are looking to put together a close combat squad in the inquisition, look into a mix of henchmen. Crusaders for defense, Death Cult Assassins and Arco-Flagelants for attack, a psyker for buffs or psychic shriek and a Ministorum Priest for Zealot and War Hymns. That makes for a tough little mini-deathstar unit. You could stick that in an Inquisitorial Land Raider Crusader (If you take psybolt ammo on the LRC, BOTH Hurricane Bolters AND the Assault Cannon bumps up a strength point).

Help with an Inquisition Army

The close combat squad

Drop the Storm bolter n the priest -> There is no need for it where this squad is going to be.
Drop the power sword on the priest -> Really why would you need an other power sword in this unit at that huge cost it has plenty already.
I love crusaders but, don't expect those Crusaders to be as tough as they seem to be. Sure they are great vs good ap tings, but against all other units they are just as weak as t3 marines.
So use them wisely or add more of them if you need more defence since the death cult chicks die even faster.

Chimera's
You might want to drop the hunter killers they seem like a waste of points. Those things are already having difficulties firing both heavy bolters ( you are taking 2 heavy bolters right ). You don't want to shoot the missile at something you are shooting the bolters at.

The shooty squads
I get the idea of a nice all round squad. There are some who like it, but I don't. I don't like having to pay for a huge pile of weapons in a squad that should shoot at different targets to be effective and are unable to do so.
I would split them up into smaller more specialized squads. Also don't pay for armour on acolytes it is too expensive.

Inquisitors.
Take the book of ld check to get special rules. It it dirt cheap and the special rules are great.
Consider adding a xenos grenades inquisitor to your assault squad ( or allied squads). Those grenades are the nastiest things in the codex.
Also consider a hammer termi inquisitor in the close combat squad the 2+ sv with 3 wounds will help a lot.

Psykers.
My guess is that you gamble on the High casting cost powers. Such as invis and pres. This requires a lot of power dice. If you are planning on using them add a psyker in EVERY henchmen squad it seems silly until you look at them as cheap power die.

msu.
It might be strange but a unit of 3 acylotes (and a psyker if you are going for that) are not bad at all if you consider objective camping or spamming an other transport.
I never leave home without at least 2 of those units.
You have 2 inquisitors -> Room for 6 squads, so you might as well use them.

Re: Help with an Inquisition Army

I second oldzoggy's changes, however, I do like the ranged squads, but I only ever take one since you have to keep an inquisitor with them to keep them from mind locking. In that squad, I include a second Jokaero. Since you add +1 to their modification table roll, you can't ever get the "nothing happens" roll, and you have a better chance of rolling 6 the first time around. I also don't mix the Servitor weapon, all HB, or all Plasma, or all MM.

Like zoggy said, the Storm Bolter and Power Sword on the priest is a bit superfluous, however the Meltabomb is a nice add on. Gives you some AT kick in an, otherwise, AI unit.

I put my Heavy Weapons ranged squads like this:

2 x Jokaero
3 x Plasma Servitors
1 x Psyker

I build my Close Combat like this:

Land Raider Crusader (psybolt)
5 x Crusaders
3 x Death Cult Assassins
2 x Arco-Flagelants
1 x Psyker
1 x Las-pistol/Chainsword Ministorum Priest with Melta-bombs

I also like to put a Xenos inquisitor in the close combat squad with Rad and/or Psychotroke grenades.
