Custom Dice Markers - Advice

Hey guys,

I'm currently putting in an order to Chessex for some dice and I was going to get some custom status effect marker dice made also.

I'm mostly doing this because I'm new and I'm *really* bad at remembering all the statuses on everything, especially in a larger game. Did it zoom last turn? Does this snap fire? Did I jink? Was a weapon destroyed? Etc. This is especially try on my own models.

So, the idea behind the custom dice is a general marker that I can put it by any unit to show that "something" is up with them. As I take my turn, I can just look at the unit and see if the "status effect" dice is sitting there, and what it is.

As I get 6 sides, I was thinking something like the following:

A Skull - This would be for units falling back, moral broken, etc.
A Cog - This would relate to vehicle conditions, shaken, stunned, immobilized
A Gun - This would relate to weapons and shooting like pinned, gone to ground, snap firing (running) or weapon destroyed.
Some Fire - This would relate to offensive magic effects or temporary stuff like soul blaze, or any number of other bad things.
Some Zigzags - This would be movement related, zooming, flat out, and jinking.
A Shield - This would be some kind of buff, be it magic or otherwise, skyfire objective, shrouded, blessings.

I'm really not an expert on the rules, and I've watched more battle reports than I've played games, but it seems like that covers most of the bases? The exact picture doesn't matter, I just want 6 general "reminder" tokens that something is up with the unit that falls into a certain category. If I see the Cog by a vehicle I'll remember whatever happened to it,. etc. Also, I play Tau, so I don't need a lot of psyker stuff.

One day maybe I'll have the mental discipline to keep it all in my head, but for now, nope!

So what do you all think? Should move around the categories? Is there anything I didn't cover, or something that would be more useful?

Thanks for the help. You guys (and ladies) are great!

Re:Custom Dice Markers - Advice

Oh, neat.

Those are pretty cool. Maybe if I really internalize the process of using dice markers, that will be a good customizable expansion to the system.

But how about my idea, until then?

Custom Dice Markers - Advice

Update:

Hey all!

I just had the nice people at Chessex manufacturing make me a custom sample die based on my idea. Here's the pictures!

I made the following changes:

Skull for Moral (Broken, etc.)
Gear for Vehicle (Shaken, Stunned, Imob.)
Laser Blast for Weapons (Pinned, Weapon D, Skyfire, Snap Firing, etc.)
Fire for Magic (Soulfire, other magic stuff, mostly offensive related)
Shield for Buffs (Any number of magic buffs)
Zigzag for Movement (Flat out, jink, gone to ground, running, etc.)

I think these looks pretty good, and would be functional. Keep in mind the final die colors and print colors are still being decided.

I'm still a little leery on the rules though. It would help if some more experienced players gave me some feed back on the "reminder" categories.

Pretty exciting!
