Tyranid Viragon Experimental Rules

Tyranid Viragon
•	Gargantuan Creature
WS 4/ BS -/ S 8/ T 7/ W 8/ I 4/ A 6/ Ld 8/ Sv 2+
Special rules – Gargantuan Creature (moves 12”, tank shock -1 to morale, attacks count as AP2 and are counted as hits from ordnance on the Vehicle Damage table, Immune to Instant Death, ID causes D3 wounds instead, sniper and poisoned weapons only wound on sixes.
Terror from the Deep – When arriving from Deep Strike Reserve, a Viragon can choose to Deep Strike onto a point occupied by another model, roll for scatter as normal. Place the 6” blast marker over the spot the Viragon is deep striking onto. All units except flyers beneath the blast marker suffer a number of Strength 6 AP 2 hits with the Ignores Cover special rule equal to the number of models that unit has underneath the blast template. For wound allocation purposes, assume the attack is coming from the centre of the blast marker. Hits against vehicles are resolved against their side armour.
If, after removing casualties, it is now possible to place the Viragon, then do so, even if his is within 1” of another model [but not if it would be in base contact with it]. If it is not possible to place the Viragon, replace the 6” blast marker on the spot and resolve another round of damage as detailed above. If, after removing casualties for the second time, it is still not possible to place the Viragon, roll on the Deep Strike Mishap table.
Burrow – An unengaged Viragon, at any point in its movement phase from the second game turn onwards, elect to burrow. If it does so, remove it from the table and place it into ongoing reserves. A Viragon may not Deep Strike and burrow in the same turn.
Hit and Run – may leave CC in Assault phase [take an initiative test then move 3d6” away from the enemy]
Fear, Fearless, Hammer of Wrath [+1A], Move through Cover, Smash, Deep Strike, Regeneration [4+], Feel No Pain {5+], Strikedown [Victim unit moves as if under difficult terrain after CC until next turn], Furious Charge [+1S]
[450 points]

Thoughts and feedback appreciated

Tyranid Viragon Experimental Rules

So, assuming that it has an instinctive behaviour, as it is not a synapse creature. It's basically a larger variant of the Mawloc? No shooting attack aside from the popping up. Does it have a pair of scything talons or just claws and teeth?

What I see here is you've added a touch of strength and tougness to a mawloc, attacks equal to a trygon, GC, and furious charge?

Oh, and totally immune to psychic powers? Interesting, where does it get that from? What is the story behind the development of this creature? Are you thinking knight titan base and approximate size?

Re:Tyranid Viragon Experimental Rules

Yes, I forgot to put synapse creature in the special rules. As far as a creature, it is designed to be a larger variant of the Mawloc, more like a cross between a trygon/mawloc and bio-titan, but without the guns. I've been looking for the rules on pairs of scything talons but haven't been able to find them yet, so for now it is claws and teeth. As far as the immune to psychic powers rule, it's from the Apocalypse rules under gargantuan creatures. As for the size, here's a picture of the completed model:

Gargantuan creatures are no longer immune to psychic powers and don't get the 2d6 armor penetration bonus.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So, that statline, terror from the deep being a 7" blast template at strength 8 ap2 (to match the strength of the beast) synapse/shadows in the warp, and all the things a gargantuan creature normally get I would put this beast at 510 points with my vehicle and monstrous creature design rules. (Link in sig)

This thing is TERRIFYING!

Well done on your monster

Edit: if you did want to keep it at strength 6 on the terror from the deep, you would drop the point total by 50.

I agree with Lyth on the TftD thing. Either S8 AP2 7" blast, or drop it by 50 points. Also, instead of mishap, just have the thing go into ongoing reserve.

3rd idea: have it be something like the apocalyptic explosion superheavies do when they die. When it comes in, center7" blast. The center hole is Str D.
Thats actaully really cool, seems to do the same things that the Trygon and the Mawloc do but with the extra survivability to be more effective at them. I also agree with Lythrandire's idea's to change Terror from the Deep and mishap rolls for it and the points cost at 500.

Tyranid Viragon Experimental Rules

Good for her! The idea that it got its points back over the course of a game but wasn't so hard to kill that your opponent didn't have fun means you made a decent monster. Was it mostly the terror damage, or did it slither around the table eating things as well?
