Flash Git formations

So, I came up with these Flash Git formations to be used with my 10 flash gitz. Here are some.

Melee Formation one: Surround the enemy squad.
Requires: 3 to 10 flash gitz.
Shape: Circle
Badrukk's position: Outside the circle.
Rules: If a flash git is taken out, then consolidate to continue surrounding the enemy as long as you can. Badrukk will come in when there is 3-5 flash gitz left. While Badrukk is outside the circle, he watches for others coming towards the unit.

Melee formation two: removed

I'll post pics later to help you get a better idea of what's happening here.

Flash Git formations

This should be put in the Proposed Rules forum.

Also...the formations seem really arbitrary when it comes to positioning. I also don't get how they're "melee formations" given that the only thing they "get" is effectively removing models from the back rather than the front. Also because this is 40K, units technically don't have a front or back like the block formation units in fantasy used to have, so what happens if they're shot from behind in deepstrike? Does every side just count as "the front"?

The worst part about this is that this formation seems to be intended to take them on foot, which is one of the worst things you could do with Flash Gitz. They excel best at shooting from a (preferably stationary) transport to make the most of their gitfindas, so far there is nothing from this formation that warrants them being taken over meganobz or even biker nobz.

I'm making up melee formations first.

This is the first formation: You have an enemy at the center, and the flash gitz are surrounding the enemy in melee range, so it has nowhere to run\hide. You would not shoot the enemy from melee range, would you? So, should a flash git be taken out, the unit consolidates so that they can still surround the enemy as long as they can.

This is the second formation: Also in melee range, but instead they are in a line, making it look to the enemy that there is only one flash git when there are more than one (at first).

As for deepstrike: If deepstrike gets a flash git (or more), then the combat has a likely chance of being lost.

Have you played with formations in 7th ed? They're not conditional scenarios where you know where the enemy is.

Also I have no idea what you're going on about in the second formation, you know all the flashgitz have to pile in per the combat rules right? Otherwise if you conga line them none of them can strike back but can still die from enemy attacks.

There is seriously no benefit to their CC abilities from these formations, why you would want flash gitz to be in melee without any sort of real bonuses (short of against things like guardsmen or Tau) is baffling.

If what you're going for is just how the unit is placed then that's not really a formation.

Yeah, not to be blunt about it, but these are not formations. These are special rules based on model position.

And those rules are confusing as hell.

Well first of all, these rules are very ripe for abuse. I can position the models so that I can qualify for all of the advantages because of the way they are written.

Plus, to add to the confusion, how does terrain or vertical distance factor into these?

The bottom line is that making rules based on model position on anything smaller than tanks is going to be rife with problems and exploits based on very small details. I would stop trying to think in terms of them, because you're going to fall into a hole of trying to jigger a flawed base concept and you won't have much fun. Instead, I would recommend asking yourself what it is you want to have happen.

Right now, I have no idea what even the intent of these rules is. I don't even see what they are accomplishing that the existing rules for model positioning don't already do.
