Demi vs Cad-Ultra Marines

Been asking a few Marine questions lately I have one more. Sorry new to them and trying to find my way.....

Why would I want to take a demi company over a cad?

I like the fluff but I want to run a tigerius as my HQ and take thunderfire cannons. I cant do this with them demi (unless I take other tax formations). Also I dont see how I can get my centurions in a pod with out a CAD. Or run a single stormtalon.

Is the Demi just not worth it unless running two for the free transports (I dont have enough Models for this yet)? Seems this way to me. Thanks!

The main benefit of the demi (imo) is the Obsec on pretty much everything. So if you're fine with that loss then CAD is ok

Do you run centurions? If so how? Picked some up with thoughts of running Grav in Pod. I'm not against the demi at all just trying to see whats the best route before I make a large purchase.

And is that Object sec. on Demi company only or whole army with same chapter Tacs?

I figured more folks wod have an opinion on this? Maybe two Demi's are the way to go then I can just buy the transports as time goes buy. Seems having that many objcsec would be strong for malestor and playing ultras I think I would get 3 sets of doctrines

I just hate I can't pick and choose my toys.

If that were the case, then no-one would ever use the CAD.
Of you're that bothered by the lack of Tigurius and TFC, then take CAD.

For me, my list anyway was pretty much a Gladius anyway.
It entirely depends.

It sounds like you are asking for list advice. The demi company can be good but it is more of a one trick pony.

Common strategies use Alpha strike drop pods with vets, grab centurions, and a few vehicles and / or an imperial knight.

Go with what is fun to play and matches your play style.

Large groups of marines with transports can be fun and effective but it all depends on you.

Demi vs Cad-Ultra Marines

I am looking for list advise. Sorry did not make that clear. I recently sold an army and have that to put in a large order but I'm new to space marines and not sure what I want besides not a lot of melee. My last army was mostly melee and did not like the play style

So far I have scout snipers 1 tac squad some reg devastators and centurions a capt and tiggy to build off of. Looking to get 1500 points thats what my gaming group plays most times.
And they run strong list so trying to not gimp myself. Thanks again

As gt_Smudge, I played what was basically a gladius anyway? so...
While I'm sad I can't use my thunderfire anymore, I have more powerful squads ( rereoll the 1 is very usefull for my plasma Tac squad^^) and a "better" army thanks to all the doctrine and obsec, overall.

Re:Demi vs Cad-Ultra Marines

Gladius really meshes better with the Ultramarine way of play. It is a good way to get more doctrines. If you run a Gladius and field Calgar, you get something like three(it might even be four) uses of the Tactical Doctrine and two of the Assault and Devastator Doctrines (possibly three). Gladius is very fluffy for UM, and is quite flexible. Don't want to run Assault Marines, run a Bike Squad in their spot. Don't want to run Devastators, take Devastator Centurions. ObSec Centurions, just let that sink in.

You CAN run a CAD if you want a little more flexibility, but you aren't gaining anything in the end.

A CAD allows Forge World models, TFC, Grav Centurions in a Pod with a Librarian and other more 'power' choices. The Demi-Company is a strong but still fluffy choice, limiting the cheese combos but benefiting the fluff ones. Battle Company being the exception of course because min-maxing everything is a competitive decision, not a fluffy one. If you run 'Ultramarines 3rd Company' like I do, a Demi-Company is a no brainer.

Indeed, Grav Centurions in a Pod is very potent, but Grav Bikers are also very strong (the Gladius can take two regular Bike Squads and two Bike Command Squads maxed out with Gravguns). Massed 20 pt Razorbacks with Assault Cannons does pretty well.
