MT allies?

I've been concidering them for a while now.

I've just recently started playing 40k again and I've yet to buy any new stuff and I'm really looking forward to build and paint again. I mostly play space marines with some inquisition thrown in. Never really serious stuff, I play my brother and his friend and it's always to have fun. Once and a while they do whip out a op list just for gaks n gigs and we see how fun lists fare vs op meta stuff.

Now MT really interests me. Having some deep striking glass canons with plasma or meltas really appeals to me, but I also want to start building some more competitive stuff.

So how does MT come into the play and what's you guys general feel about MT?

Competitively speaking they sadly don't bring much that space marines don't already. Their orders are decent and if you want more AP3 their hotshot volleyguns aren't half bad but like much of the IG codex 7th ed. has not been kind to them, you're better off taking sternguard with combi-meltas/plasmas in drop pods if you want special weapons in the backfield.

However, if you really want to use them its better to take them as part of the ground or air formation if you can to get the bonus benefits. Both give you pinning and twin-linked the turn they are deployed which allows you to choose some of the more fun orders to give on that turn rather than have to waste one to ensure accuracy. Their ability to gain sniper or rending for their basic troops makes them good to take on most MC's and heavy infantry.
