been out of the game for a while...

Hi all,

Myself and my group have been out fo the game for the last 2 or 3 years - mostly due to new jobs, kids etc - none of us ever got round to picking up the 7th ed rulebook.

We're planning on trying to get back into it after the New Yea, but i'm wondering just how out of touch we all are.

None of us ever picked up the 7th ed book, one of us is still running the last IG codex. I'm using the CSM book (the first one that was in hardback with a Khorne marine on the cover - not sure if that is still the most recent one). We'll probably start out with a coupe of games of 6th ed just because that's the last thing we played and most (some) of it will still be familiar to us.

Is it worth us getting a 7th ed rulebook at all? i'm assumig g8th ed can't be too far away with the rate that GW were firing out books a coupe of years ago.

There has been no rumors on 8th Edition. So far it seems like the goal has been to upgrade the full game to 7th Edition as one, that way no one is left behind. CSM, Imperial Guard, Tyranids, Daemons, Sisters of Battle and I think one other army are still using the 6th Edition codex but everything else has been updated.

7th isn't crazy different. Obviously there are some rules differences, but the only completely different thing is the Psychic phase. I'm sure you could watch a 7th Edition game and still understand 90% of what's going on. Just know that threats are bigger and meaner and heavy weapons are a must-have. Or some people take it to the opposite extreme and make it so you simply don't have enough guns to kill all their bodies. There's rarely a middle ground anymore.

Thanks for the reply. I think our first game back is going be a 2 on 2 game, each person taking 2000 points.

I'm teaming with orks and i know the guys has literally hundreds of Boyz so i'll most likely take a more heavy hitting elite army. Couple of 'raiders and some terminators. Maybe dust of my Hell Blade too. Got a nice Cataphtractii Terminator lord i converted but never got to use.
