Ghazghkull Thraka - A True Lord of War

Disclaimer: As we all know, poor Ghazzy got the shaft in the current ork codex. He got unjustly nerfed and sent to the LoW slot, competing with Stompas, Garg Squiggoths, and probably other FW units i cant think of right now. He lost "Rage" since he no longer has Adamantium Skull, his WAAAAGH power cannot be called at any point, Cybork Armor got nerfed to a 6+ FNP and he wasnt given a normal Invul to compensate, and on top of it all still costs 225pts (which is grossly overpriced compared to a Lucky Stikk MA Warboss, and also inferior due to the Lucky Stikk rerolls).
Ghazzy needs a buff. But rather than bring him back to HQ status and literally just be a +1W +1WS +1A Warboss with EW, lets try and make him worthy of a Lord of War and more accurately depict his fluff in the process.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ghazghkull Thraka: 275pts (Lord of War for Codex: Orks)
Statline: WS6 BS2 S5 T6 W4 I4 A5 LD9 Sv2+
Unit Composition: 1 (Unique)

Ghazghkull may take items from the Runts & Squigs list.

Warlord Trait: Prophet of the Waaagh!

Wargear:
--Cybork Body
--Kustom Mega Armour
--Twinlinked Bigshoota
--Power Klaw
--Stikkbombs
--Da Boss' WAAAAGH! Banner

Special Rules:
--'Ere We Go!
--Eternal Warrior
--Big n Bad n Don't Care
--Furious Charge
--Fearless
--Independent Character
--Mob Rule
--Monsterous Creature
--Preferred Enemy (Everyone)
--Waaaaagh!

Kustom Mega Armor:
--Ghazghkull Thraka sports Mega Armor, however due to his sheer size it needed to be kustom krafted for him. Confers a 2+ armor save and has a fully functional Iron Halo installed granting him a 4++ invulnerable save. Ghazghkull is so large and strong that the heavy armor does not slow him down.

Da Boss' WAAAAGH! Banner:
--Sporting a special and unique bosspole, every Ork on the field can tell Ghazghkull is around and wrecking things without them. This gives them an even stronger urge to get into the fight, granting them +1 Leadership if they can see his bosspole. Furthermore, any Codex: Ork unit in an assault with Ghazgkhull becomes Fearless, even if they are not in his unit, and count as having a Waaagh! Banner equipped to their unit (this includes Ghazghkull's unit too).

Big n Bad n Don't Care:
--Allows Ghazghkull to embark upon Battlewagons or similar vehicles, despite being a Monsterous Creature. May not embark anything smaller than a Battlewagon. A trukk is too small and would crumple beneath his feet. Ghazghkull counts as 4 slots rather than 2 like normal Mega Armor orks do. Furthermore, he is not considered an MC when joining units, or other ICs joining his unit.
Prophet of Gork and Mork:
--Same effect as usual, but can be declared at the begining of any phase rather than the turn. Still cannot be called on the first turn.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most of these changes are subtle ones, such as giving him back his 5+ invul save, a Twinlinked big shoota, and Preferred Enemy which only affects melee since his gun is twinlinked now.
I made his Bosspole grant virtually army-wide +1LD since Orks have a leadership problem outside the units a warboss is in, and since hes Fearless his bosspole is irrelevant. I'd rather change it than leave it for the fact that he still has it modeled on him. I didnt want to make the army Fearless outside of combat, and it made sense that if theyre piled in on a unit theyre Fearless even if theyre not technically a part of Ghazzy's unit.

Now for the big change: Monsterous Creature. Ghazghkull is a massive Warboss, yet he is depicted in the game as being just as big as a regular warboss (which is also undersized). Hes suppose to be larger than a Dreadnought, which to me screams Monsterous Creature. This grants him three main perks: Fear, ignores Unwieldy on his Powerklaw, and Moves Through Cover. Being able to fire two guns is pointless since he only has 1 and Smash on a S10 AP2 powerklaw is redundant lol. This also would normally prevent him from using a transport, so Big n Bad n Don't Care allows him to ride around large transports anyway at a higher capacity tax.

I upped his price to 275 because im semi-basing his pricing off of the Leviathan Dreadnought in terms of how powerful he is for the cost. I say semi because the Leviathan has vastly better shooting and less attacks. Leviathan is still more expensive though. The army-wide LD buff is huge on its own, so that alone made me want to up his price a bit.

Update Log:
--Changed "Da Boss' Bosspole" to "Da Boss' WAAAAGH! Banner" and added Waaagh Banner rules to it.
--Changed "Big n Bad n Don't Care" to allow other ICs to join his unit without question.
--Changed toughness to 6 and 4++ invul
--Changed "Big n Bad n Don't Care" to prevent rule-threading denying him from joining a unit, even though thats never been a thing.

I like Da Boss' Bosspole (maybe call it Da Great Waaagh! Banner?) giving Ld to all orks within LoS. Ghazghkull is basically the ork version of The Emperor, and should have a similar impact on his followers.

I think the MC rule makes some sense, mainly because I find it so strange that the ork codex only gives good (well, not horrible) initiative to things you're going to be putting PKs on anyway, or in Ghazzy's case, must take a PK.

And I agree that his model looks kind of stumpy. He's barely bigger than a normal meganob, and in most fluff he's at least twice that

Thought about calling it something along the lines of Waaagh! Banner but then that would imply it gives +1WS to his unit. Which tbh the more i think about it, the more i want to add that bit in too lol. Probably say it counts as a waaagh! banner so it doesnt stack with the Nobz version. WS8 is kinda nuts outside of his Council formation lol.

Reason i mention that is because im honestly tempted to run regular nobz if i use these rules. MANz still confer him SnP so he cant run or sweep, and do we really need more than 6 S10 Ap2 attacks on the charge? rofl.

And i agree on the init crap. I wanted to run the Killchoppa purely because he strikes at init4 (warbosses) but the Lucky Stikk is just way too powerful to not take, since you cant take both and multiple warbosses usually makes you suffer from lack of painboyz or big meks.

The only thing that needs that many S10 attacks (though MANz are only S9 on the charge) are vehicles like Land Raiders, and Ghazzy should be out wrecking other things- let the Killsaw MANz take care of the vehicles.

And I completely agree with running him with Nobz. A friend and I ran Ghazzy and PK nobs and they cleaned house. Granted, the whole unit eventually died, since Nobz are surprisingly fragile, but they work.

And the initiative is stupid because I'm always super hesitant to have my Warboss accept challenges, because even though he'll wriggity-wriggity wreck anyone he gets to hit, he has to, y'know, hit them first. 'Eavy Armor is bypassed by a poopload of weapons that don't have unwieldy, and I don't want to put Mega-Armor on my warboss because he won't be able to run and charge when he calls the Waaagh! Seems to defeat the point.

Ghazghkull Thraka - A True Lord of War

Regular nobz with PK is kinda pointless though unless you want bikers. A t-shirt save nob w/ klaw is 5pts more expensive than a MANz. One could say that means MANz are undercosted, but no Nobz are overcosted. Thats a different fixing topic though.

I would be running bigchoppas. Lots of S7 on the charge at init3 and cheaper than PKs by a longshot. Literally the only thing S7 cant hurt that Ghazzy's unit would want to charge is landraiders and/or monoliths, which yeah let the MANz Missile deal with them.

And screw it i just added the Waaagh Banner counts as in there and renamed Da Boss' Boss Pole. WS7 Ghazzy, fear me WS3 Big bugs!
Also tweaked Big n Bad n Don't Care to prevent any rule-threading to prevent painboyz or other warbosses from joining his unit.

Ghazghkull Thraka - A True Lord of War

Two things here - one, his MC ability to fire two guns actually does help him, albeit only in one narrow case. He can fire the shoota and throw a stikkbomb. Two, being an MC means he still has AP2 even if he gets disarmed somehow (Eldar dickery).

Maybe I'd polish "Big n Bad n Don't Care" a wee bit more to clarify that he can join other units, ICs or not - there's a rules dispute on that point concerning Honor-Shas'vre O'Vesa, who is, AFAIK, the only other MC that's an IC.

Now somehow, it seems to me that the biggest, meanest, bossest Ork of them all ought to be T6 and Ld10, but maybe that's just gilding the lily at this point.

All in all, this guy is a holy terror, and I really like him!

Ghazghkull Thraka - A True Lord of War

T6 isnt really needed since he has EW, and hes already WS7 which shafts anything WS3 or less from hitting him. He still has a 2+ 5++ 6+FNP (5+ with the obvious painboy) and 4 wounds. I dont want to make him ungodly powerful, but i want him to be feared for a damn good reason. Hes killable as it stands, but you gotta work at it.

Also, the MC IC rule doesnt prevent MC IC from joining a unit himself. It gets hazy when other ICs are involved, since the wording is "units containing MCs" - when the MC IC joins, there is no such condition, but once another IC joins then its hazy even though "multiple ICs can join to form a super unit!" tidbit. Its also a common sense thing, IC rule is 100% useless if he cant join anything.
Tau have 2 such characters now. One is O'Vesa, the other is the Coldstar Commander since he counts as an MC w/o the goodies (basically the FMC flight is all he gets, and moves through cover).

And im not used to running into disarming mechanics so i totally didnt think about that lol

As it stands, he's somewhat easier to kill than an Iron Hands Chapter Master on a bike (with artificer armor), who would be T5, W4, 2+/4++/6+FNP, albeit with better attacks. I'd argue in favor of T6 simply so that pretty much anybody without a power fist will be stuck wounding him on higher rolls. I have played this quit a few times and find that it is way too expensive, even at bare min points, a highly immobile when your battle wagon gets destroyed.
I acept Ghazzy weakness of immobility if he had more survivability, which is why I gave him the stats I mentioned earlier.
This formation would be super awesome and worth it if it was like the others where you could call a Waaaghh every turn after the first.
