[Dunno] - Necrons - Need some help

Hi there and a happy after-christmas and a merry new year.

I am starting Neurons and I am a total Noob. I didn't choose them because they are overpowered (At least that's what I heard) , but because I think they look awesome and I like the thought of fighting with undead-living metal. Well that stundet weird.

But now to the real thing:
I could use some help in making a army list:

My plan for now is to get 15 warriors, 4 scarabs, a ghost ark, maybe a a tomb blade squad and a overlord or somethin'

I would really appreciate any suggestions or ideas.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Autocorrection changed necrons to neurons and sounded to stundet

With the units you've listed you are pretty much forced to stick with a CAD. But even then you don't have enough warriors to make 2 minimum squads.

If this is your first go at necrons, I'd suggest collecting at least 5 more warriors so you can make a CAD. Then throw in other units and try them out. Tomb Blades are a good start.

Almost every necron unit is playable and decent. I find the infantry to be the most fun. Wraiths, Praetorians, Flayed Ones etc.

Someone else told me a Neuron battleforce would be something to start with, is that true?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Goddamnit autocorrection!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I also heard some kind of Reclamation Legion or something like that is pretty good

Yes, a battleforce will give you all the necessary tools to start and almost every unit in the box will be used in a standard necron army. So it's a good value.

The Reclamation Legion is a formation that is required for a Decurion Detachment. If you want a very resilient army then a Decurion Detachment is something to go for. With the battleforce and an overlord, you'll have the requirement fulfilled for a Reclamation Legion.

The main downside to a Decurion Detachment is that you're restricted to the formation and none of those formation have 'Objective Secured' units. It's a trade-off that is usually worthwhile.

If you want to try a Decurion, here's a good starter list:

Decurion:

Reclamation Legion:
- 1 Overlord (pick your flavor. I recommend the character Nemesor Zhandrakh. Whatever you pick, stick him with a unit of warriors on foot.)
- 10 Warriors in Ghost Ark
- 10 - 20 Warriors on foot
- 5 Immortals with Gauss weapons
- 3 Tomb Blades w/ Shield Vanes(3+ armor) and Nebscope(ignore cover)

Now you need an Auxiliary Formation to complete the detachment. I'd recommend a Canoptek Harvest.

Canoptek Harvest:
- 3 Wraiths with Whip Coils
- 3 Scarabs
- 1 Spyder

A cheaper option is to take Deathmarks. They're not a formation but a unit of Deathmarks can be taken as an Auxiliary option for the Decurion Detachment. Another cheap option is Flayed Ones which can be taken as a single unit in the same way as Deathmarks. Their nice and cheap for the amount of damage they can do in melee.

After that you can add units as you wish. You can add more warriors and Ghost Arks for a 'steel tide' type army. You can add flyers to be more mobile. You can add other formations such as the ever deadly Destroyer Cult or more Canoptek Harvest. You can supplement a 'steel tide' with the Judicator Formation which adds Stalkers (providing a +1 to BS for all units within 6") and Praetorians for counter assault.

There are a lot of options within the Decurion Detachment. You can of course always take a standard CAD and sprinkle in whatever Formations you want. The formations do not require that they be taken within a Decurion.

To piggyback what Zimko said, a good 1000 point force to play some small games would be this:

Decurion

Reclamation Legion:
Nemesor Zahndrekh
5 Immortals (I prefer Tesla but Gauss may better suit your style)
3 Tomb Blades (particle beamers, shield vanes, nebulo scopes)
15 Warriors
10 Warriors

Canoptek Harvest:
Spyder
6 Wraiths (6 whip coils)
3 Scarabs

You get a little bit of everything there. You have a strategic minded HQ to learn some of the tactical nuances of the game, a decent unit of 15 Warriors to lob a bunch of shooting dice, a few ignore cover blasts to flush out cheap objective squatters, and a good assault unit so that you get to play all three phases of the game.

My personal preference to reach higher point games is to include a Destroyer Cult, some more warriors, and a Ghost Ark. But that's just me.
