Its a lot better to stick the wheel on one strut when the chassy is in half then connect the other half. Otherwise youre asking for trouble trying to jam the tire between them.

From the pic, it looks almost like a pin broke off of the inside of the hub. There's a small light grey spot that's a different color than the surrounding plastic. Much like any other plastic parts that break, there's usually a lighter shad at the break spot. To be honest, though, I've never built a warbike, so I don't know if there's tyically a longer pin there or not.
