Don't worry about them only moving 6 inches you have to conga line the drones. Plague drones are really hard to kill they already get a 5 up invulnerable save plus if you take the Loci for the heralds they will get FNP plus they have shrouded.. So really what you want is some awesome spells from the Bio to increase chances. Cursed earth on 8x Drones is a pain to kill.
People that play in the meta might not even shoot at them. What are your planes with the drones?
With Daemons you want to force people into focusing on one thing.. People tend to not like you summoning because in the end its overwhelming.
So they may go for your summoning units, Also it really depends what kind of list you are going to play.
You just have to be smart about how you use them and what powers you are throwing at them..

that is what it should look like when you are looking at your models. So you move the first 2 DD 12 inches. The second line of DD technically don't move 12 inches and move less and less you go further back. So the Heralds can stay with the group.
