Games workshop; Painting challenge Pick your 3

Went to a painting challenge at a Games Workshop store, was really stoked to see what was out there, being my first challenge. Rules were stated; minimum squad size, judging will be on the whole models, nothing else. This is what was there, pick what you say would be 1, 2, and 3, then I'll tell you the real story...

The way you vote in the store is
1st    -    3points
2nd   -   2points
3rd   -    1points

That's it, on a paper, popularity contest. Not about skill, attention to detail, not even about basing. I confronted the owner about it all and he stated;
"The unbased entries are a work in progress. There were two unbased entries, both by hobbyists who are actively working out how they want to base the collections from which they drew their entries. As you noted, we try to make the challenges as inclusive as possible, and disallowing those units on the grounds of unfinished bases would be counter-productive I'm that sense."

1st place was A with the backdrop
2nd were the Centenarians
3rd was the space wolfs with no base.
4th were the space marine scouts.

Enjoy

Just saying I don't think this should be in the Introductions part of these forums. Could you please move it to one of the painting/modelling sections?

Games workshop; Painting challenge Pick your 3

Welcome to dakka.

I really wouldn't put too much stock into a store painting competition. Although winning is nice, the "best" paint job rarely wins, people just vote for their friends, or the model/colour scheme they like. I've seen guys with gd pins and who painted for gw loose to 15 yr olds who can barely paint in the lines. Don't let it get you down or stop participating though.
