This is my first stab at a Decurion detachment how did I do? I wasn't sure if the massed gauss firepower would be enough AA which is why I took the Doom Scythes. I can see that night scythe is cheaper and gives the same amount of AA but I needed an auxiliary choice for the decurion Rezz bonus

Doom Scythes are not really good AA. What i mean by that is, they're a huge points tax to accomplish something that they're not really designed for. Their main weapon can't be shot at aircraft and can't be shot at all if they have to jink. Generally speaking, just ignore flyers or take 1-2 Night Scythes if you really want to combat them since Night Scythes can be used as transports which are incredibly good.

If you go this route, i'd suggest a few things:
1) Split the immortals into 2 squads of 5 and give each one a Night Scythe. (you could just do 1 night scythe and leave a squad of immortals to walk with your gun line, which opens a lot more points for use in another formation).
2) Split the 20x warrior squad into 2 squads of 10
3) Add 1 additional Tomb Blade and split those into 2 squads of 3 (you can't have both Nebuloscopes and Shadowlooms, you have to pick one -- and definitely pick Nebuloscopes).

Replacing the Deathbringer flight with Night Scythes opens up 60 points, which isn't that much unfortunately, so it might be in your best interest to drop a squad of tomb blades in favor of flayed ones or a Harvest. You have a ton of gun line to work with your monoliths, which is cool, but you probably want some meat in front to tie up scarier melee units (harvest is best for this, but flayed ones can get the job done nicely too if used well).

If you have the points, the Harvest is definitely the way to go. If not, a unit of 5x Deathmarks is the cheapest auxiliary to complete the Decurion. They aren't one of our best units, but even as a group of 5, they can still do some damage.

Another thought: doesn't the Reclamation Legion limit you to 0-1 Monoliths?
I was considering the harvest formation since wraiths are so wonderfully disgusting. And also amazingly cool models that remind me of the matrix!!

Also about the tomb blades it says 'Any model may take one of the following:' for nebulo scopes and shadowlooms. So I see no reason I can't have a couple of shadowlooms out front with +1 cover saves. If 2 of my 5 blasts don't ignore cover it's not a big deal.

I think I would rather go harvest and ignore air than to get night scythes and buy some death marks or flayed ones as tax.

The monolith gate and the solar staff's ability seem to synergize well with big units which is why I took one unit of 20. I would put the lord in there and keep them in reserve. Then they can all pop out of a monolith to deliver an honest salvo and then in my opponents next turn declare themselves invisible with the solar staff to get a second round of shooting in at full strength.

You're right, you can mix and match Shadowlooms and Nebuloscopes within a single squad. It's just generally not that useful. I'd rather guarantee the ignores cover on strength 6 than take a 3+ jink.

I think going with the Harvest is a good call. It'll mesh well with the idea of your army and could serve to keep your gun line alive for a while longer.

I get the point of sticking the overlord w/ the large blob, i just find it to be very risky. Even w/ the solar staff, you can get charged and have 21 models locked up for 1-2 turns, which would devastate your strategy. If you have 2 squads of 10, they can't do that as effectively.

What do you think of using anrakyr instead of the overlord because he can give counter attack to the warrior unit that he joins and also to the unit of immortals. That is pretty sweet anti-cc deterrent right?

It's not really a deterrent. If someone was going to charge them then they'd still do it and they'd still get their full attacks because our Initiative 2 won't allow you to kill any before they attack. All you can hope for from counter-attack is that you kill a couple more than usual in response.

If you're looking for an Overlord to stick with the warriors, I'd recommend Zhandrek. He can choose his warlord trait every turn. So if you want an offensive boost then he can take the power that rerolls 1s when shooting. If you're about to be charged then he can make the warriors Fearless and turn them into a huge speedbump. On top of that, he's a very resilient character with 2+ 4++ 4+++ saves. If you're playing against an army that relies on Deep Strike then you can switch to the trait that reduces your opponent's deep strike rolls by 1. He can affect the battle while baby-sitting the warriors which is why I like him.

Oh, and he can borrow abilities from your opponent's units. Which is just a little bonus that sometimes becomes relevant.

Anrakyr is considered one of our worst UCs, but he has his place. If you combine him with Illuminor Szeras, he can add a random stat increase to those same Immortals. If he gives them +1 WS or +1 T, they are actually pretty tough in CC. Note that Szeras also gives nearby units +1 to RP, so in a Decurion those same Immortals now have 4+ RP even against ID!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Never let anyone tell you that a Necron unit is bad.
