Two convicted drug dealers Daniel & Samuel Sledden couldnt beleive their luck when their case judge gave them a two year sentence suspended for two years.
So they celebrated as only chavs can, by taunting the judge on Facebook, laughing about their minimal punishment and making sexual taunts which can't be reposted here.

Today the pair were back in court, where the lack of gravity of their approach to the crime was reconsidered. As with many criminals a good defense lawyer will highlight remorse felt and the lessons learned to lighten punishment delivered. Because the prisons are full this is allowed to work more often than no. However this ploy was somewhat undermined by the Facebook comments, some dating from only two minutes after the trial ended. This was enough to indicate a lack of respect for the court and proof of a lack of willingness to reform. It also doesn't help to make sexual taunts at the judge who writes your own ongoing provision order.

The brothers were re-sentenced today with their custodial sentence to begin immediately. If I was a guard in the van transporting these fools to prison I would probably find it hard to suppress a big grin right now.

Note: searched articles for this story are from 16th February when the brothers were ordered to re-attend court. as of this writing the trial hearing and re-sentencing is not in the printed press.

We just had a thread about a occupation of a government building resulting from a resentencing. The Sledden brothers were not gaoled for insulting the judge. The judge herself explained why they were re-sentenced.

In a nutshell:

- The Sledden brothers defence lawyer made a successful defence that the defendants were contrite and had ceased trading in drugs.
- Facebook comments posted immediately afterwards contradicted the defence and proved the Sleddens were unreformed.
- Judge Lunt reserved the right to re-sentence them as they were under a lawful suspended sentence order.

Judge Lunt made it clear that remarks made about her were not relevant to the legal process following. Members of the public can read what they wish into the Sledden's full comments, but the courts cannot. The only relevance to the legal procedings was: Did the social media comments posted by the defendants immediately after the trial contradict the legal defense they used to avoid prison? The Crown has argued that this was so.

Had the Sleddens been aquitted then blagged afterwards they would likely have got away with it. However they were found guilty and under a suspended sentence, the courts have every right to make them serve the time standing over their heads under the previous sentencing. So now they get to serve the two years rather than have a two year suspended sentence and can only blame their own gloating on social media for the change in circumstances.

Some may have assumed they were teens, others that the acted like them. I didn't see a point in correcting anyone who thought the former.
The ages were clearly referenced in the articles and the age of criminal culpability is 10 in the UK. The sort of behaviour shown by the pair is quite common for chavs of all ages. A suspended sentence is essentially a custodial sentence, but put on hold on the basis of good behaviour. It can be lifted if they offend again for instance. Usually it gets added onto their new sentence.
