Welcome, and I would say you might be able to run a small space hulk game if you use the knights as marines. But as far as playing a game of 40k, that's not enough. Unfortunately tyranids are what we call a horde army, you need dozens of the blighters to make a small army.
But there's no reason you couldn't run some combat examples with what you have, if you go to your local store.

It sounds like you're new to the hobby. To play, you're going to need a copy of the rules. A lot of folks start off getting a copy of the rulebook in a box set, like Dark Vengeance. That set includes two starter armies, unit descriptions, and the rulebook. If you have any friends that also play, you could borrow their rulebook and read through it to get a feel for the game. You will also need a copy of your army's codex (e.g., Tyranids, Chaos Space Marines, etc.).

There are lots of great deals to be had on eBay, and here in the Dakka swap shop if you are looking to build your army.
