Using citadel paints to paint wooden planks

What is the best color scheme for this. Start with mournfang or dryad bark. And what to highlight? I primed chaos black I've also seen people dry brush it all instead of using shades. Does that make it look better?

Re:Using citadel paints to paint wooden planks

It depends?

I mean, wood comes in soooo many different colours, for one thing.

Really you can start with any colour you like, and go from there. You can look at pictures online of woods to see the various colours.

I like mine to look aged, so the way I do it is a bit different.

I usually prime black, then paint the wood whatever brown I want to use. I will go ahead and give it a bit of an agrax wash usually. Since GW's wood planks (like on the doomwheel) have the grain on them, I will usually drybrush a lighter brown, that kind of matches my main brown. Not every where, just over a few bits of the boards. Then I'll use zandri dust or another cream/light brown to do my highlights (drybrushed) to help the grain show up. I tend to make my woods very dark so this helps a lot. Then as a final step I take a bit of corellia greenshade, or anotehr green shade, and use that on the wood - this helps it looked aged.

As guildenstern said, it depends.

Usually I'll start with a basecoat of Rakarth Flesh. Layer with Karak Stone. Highlight with 1:1 Karak Stone : Ushabti Bone. Extreme highlight with Ushabti Bone. Then wash with Agrax Earthshade.

Other peoples opinions on this:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/230930.page
and a cool google search brings this up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmLq__4Q_IU
