If you use scalpels, Stanley knives or snap-off blade knives, it's better just to buy a new blade.

But it comes down to how pedantic you are about having a super sharp blade. I just discard my old blades or put them in a box to use later when I don't need a good edge. but some people will buy a pack of 100 surgical blades and STILL have a sharpening stone on their desk just to touch up the tip.

I used to think such people were just crazy, but then I realised the reason why my canopy masking fails so often is even fresh blades straight out of the box my blades aren't sharp enough to use the same techniques some of the pros use I've spoken to one guy and when cutting decals or masking canopies he literally cleans up the tip of his blade every few cuts to keep the edge as keen as possible.
