[1850] - Eldar - Imperialdar

Eldar Craftworld Warhost Imperialdar competitive list (1840 pts)

Hi, I haven’t played 40k over the last 10 years, this is my first list with the 7th edition. I have tried this list with two friends and both had tournament lists. Both games were unilateral victories for the Imperialdar.

Strength of this list:
A-	Unconventionality: many Eldar list fields very strong units like Wraithlords, Wraithknight or Hornets. Not this one. It’s just a massive number of Guardians and Dire Avengers. It has more similarities with an Imperial infantry army than it does with the usual Eldar army.
B-	Massive mobility: With Matchless agility and battlefocus, almost all the elements of this list can move 12” and shoot.
C-	Impressive antipersonnel firepower: 115 infantry models with bladestorm rules that has simili-rending characteristics with a BS of 4 or 5… Luck is not a factor because with important number of dices, the laws of probability kicks in. You can shred Wraith Knight and monstrous creature apart with this list.
D-	Decent antitank firepower: 6 Bright lance plateform, 6 singing spears and 2 D-cannon.
E-	Decent Psychic phase: A basic pool of 10 warp dices or more per psychic phase. Warlocks and Farseer well protected behind 10x guardians bodybags.
F- Lack of important target: Like facing an infantry Imperial list, there is no major unit on which you can concentrate your firepower. There is 21 units to target and many are redundant. Probably your enemy will target the Warwalkers, Vypers and D cannon, so you plan accordingly.
G-	Capacity to soak enemy firepower: loosing guardians and Dire avengers has limited impact on your own subsequent firepower. You will always have more guardians than targets in range. Your defense lies not in your armor value, but the sheer size of your force.
H-	Reduce the impact of opponent’s antitank assets: Lascanon has very limited utility against this list. The value of enemy points invested into AT assets are reduced. Hornets with starcanons feels like hvy bolters to this list.

The Imperialdar List (1840 pts)
Core
Guardian Battlehost (635)
- Farseer with Singing spear and Spirit stone of Anathlan
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform and Warlock W/singing spear
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform and Warlock W/singing spear
- Vaul’s Wrath Support Battery w/ x1 D-Cannon
- Vyper squadron w/1x Vyper armed with 2x shuriken canon
- War Walker x1 w/ 2x scatter laser

Guardian Battlehost (620)
- Farseer with Singing spear
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform and Warlock W/singing spear
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform and Warlock W/singing spear
- Vaul’s Wrath Support Battery w/ x1 D-Cannon
- Vyper squadron w/1x Vyper armed with 2x shuriken canon
- War Walker x1 w/ 2x scatter laser

Auxiliary (585 pts)
- Dire avenger Shrine w/3x5 men Dire Avenger squads
- Dire avenger Shrine w/3x5 men Dire Avenger squads
- Dire avenger Shrine w/3x5 men Dire Avenger squads

What do you think? What major weakness does it have? What is the main threat against this list?

Avec respect

S

Before you go to a tournament, you'll need to verify what their build restrictions are.

ITC is continuing to increase its presence and you'll find the 3 detachment restriction cutting into your numbers (I think).

125 elves is very strong at 1850.

Reason "H" - LasCannons were big 10 years ago, but they've long since been shoved aside for GravGuns, other elvish Monofilament or BladeStorm. I don't think I have played against LasCans in more than a year, only to face a couple in the last RTT. Marine players will have meltas and Gravguns, which won't do well against your hordes.

I would suppose that KhorneDaemonKin giving you h2h problems.
Well. It's original. If the whole thing is a Warhost you need another auxiliary. It's 1+ per Core choice. Fins points for Rangers from your Guardian hosts? I'll be honest - I don't think you have anything like enough anti tank. How would you deal with Knights?

Thanks for the feedback!

Imperial Knights would definitely be a challenge. I think the Psychic power Doom would help boost the anti-tank element of the list. I would aim at bringing down 2-3 Knights at most and use the numerous units and maneuverability to get the most of Victory point possibilities. All lists have drawbacks… Thanks for pointing to the threat of this list.

There was no Imperial Knights 10 yeas ago...

S

To slightly add more anti armor to your list, you could swap out the War Walker weapons for Brightlances.

If you could find the points, an Avatar would benefit this kind of army. Not sure how to get the points right now.

Very good advices Sarigar! I will trade the intermediate firepower for full AT.

I am able to put a bright lance on each of the Vyper at no point cost if I lose the 2 Shuriken catapult.

By removing the singing spears of the Farseers, I have enough points to add 2 bright lance on each of the Warwalker.

That makes 12 bright lances, 4 singing pears and 2 D-canon as anti tank ressources. Not enough to overcome Imperial knights, but definetly better. Paired with Doom and Guide it has potential.

Avec respect,

S

Folks I play often underestimate the speed of a Craftworld Warhost and you have a really large amount of anti infantry that can get into range very quickly.

Your army will make for some difficult choices regarding target priority. But, be aware of things that use Hellstorm templates as it will erase large numbers of your infantry.

[1850] - Eldar - Imperialdar

Any bolt gun will remove huge chunks of your Guardians and vyper and as some have pointed out, you'll get chewed up by a tough cookie unit. I can't see this working well against a gladius (everything in transports and silly volume of bolter shots), MSU jetbikes, or any sensible tau list, They simply do too much damage. Riptide wing and a stormsurge will ruin your day.

That said, replacing some of the dire avengers aspect host with warp spiders x3, will massively upgrade your offensive output and initial point scoring capabilities. Spiders that can battlefocus 6 will be great for your mobility.

I'd lose the singing spears as well on all units that have it. My experience is that its horrible. Any farseer within 12 of anything is in a place it doesnt want to be, and I can't see the squad it will be going with that enables it to use it. Additionally, IF you get into melee with something huge, like a knight, you will have a weapon that can harm it, so you can't fall back voluntarily with our weapons are useless

What psychic powers are you hoping to get on your farseers anyway? I'd imagine shrouding for some funky bubble tricks.

Re:[1850] - Eldar - Imperialdar

I’ve playtest the Imperialdar concept with some modification vs an Imperial knight army with a friend. While my friend has around 20 years of experience with 40k, it was his first IK list and the first time he tried them. It was a very tight and cool game. While we did not finish the game, we both agreed that the Imperialdar had the advantage after 3 rounds. I manage to kill 2 IK out of 5 and had another seriously injured (only one HP left). While my list suffered massive lost, around 50 KIA, my anti-tank firepower was almost intact.

My tactic was to use the Dire avengers has counter movement unit and meat shield. So they moved towards the IK to block their movements. In order to maintain his liberty of movement, my opponent had to deal with the Dire avengers and he could not ignore them. Passing through a wall Dire Avenger took 3 rounds. That made 3 rounds of shooting for my other units. D-Cannon was very good even if I expected more from it and the Vibrocanon was also very good. From my perspective, the psychic phase was a game changer: Doom was highly efficient as penetration rerolls were required to have an impact on IK. By moving Warlock to Vault battery, I was able to better protect them and having more Weapon platforms in the Vaults batteries gave a better recipient for force multiplier psychic powers (Doom and Guide). Vault batteries are extremely resistant to adverse shooting, way better than 5th edition… They are not made of the usual eldar paper thin resistance.

The list I used was the following :

The Imperialdar List (1850 pts)

Core
Guardian Battlehost (630)
- Farseer with Spirit stone of Anathlan
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform
- Vaul’s Wrath Support Battery w/ x3 Vibrocanons and Warlock
- Vyper x1 w/ 1x bright lance/twin link shuriken catapult
- War Walker x1 w/ 2x bright lance

Guardian Battlehost (635)
- Farseer
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform
- Guardian defender 10 men squad with Bright Lance Plateform
- Vaul’s Wrath Support Battery w/ x2 D-Cannon and Warlock
- Vyper x1 w/ 1x bright lance/twin link shuriken catapult
- War Walker x1 w/ 2x bright lance

Auxiliary (585 pts)
Dire avenger Shrine
- x5 men Dire Avenger squads
- x5 men Dire Avenger squads
- x5 men Dire Avenger squads
Dire avenger Shrine
- x5 men Dire Avenger squads
- x5 men Dire Avenger squads
- x5 men Dire Avenger squads
Dire avenger Shrine
- x5 men Dire Avenger squads
- x5 men Dire Avenger squads
- x5 men Dire Avenger squads

120 infantry models, 5 artilleries and 4 light vehicles

I consider this list to be crystalised. Thanks for pointing me to the IK threat, the initial weak AT firepower and pointing to some solution like brightlance on Warwalkers. While I still think a seasoned IK player would have the advantage over this list of Imperialdar, the fight would not be easy.

Avec respect,

S

I appreciate the feedback after playing with an army list you were working on. Great tactic for the DA units against something that some would say are useless. I am not sure I want to run 150+ models, but I definitely see the merit in something like this. However, I really like your finalized list.
