Traitor Guard colours

Right, soon I wish to start a project to make an army of Chaos Renegades, made up of Cadian models with the Aquila scraped off them. But I haven't been able to find a good colour scheme that isn't the blood pact.
So I'm asking you guys if you have any ideas for Chaos Renegades that are neutral, so not dedicated to any god.
I'll take all under consideration, and those that I like the sound off, then any that I like, I'll go ahead and try out on a test model.
Thanks in advance.

Re:Traitor Guard colours

I can't recommend focusing on modelling enough when it comes to traitor guard. Wether that's conversion kit bashing or the sourcing of convincing parts. When thinking about paint schemes I think you should think about why they turned traitor. Was it because they grew fed up with being used as meat shields, opportunistically defected for wealth and power, or were corrupted be demons and chaos cultists. How long have they been fighting and how does this reflect their organisational structure. Have they retained the formal chain of command or gone for a more individualistic warband approach. This will be reflected in their paint schemes. Personally with traitor guard (not cultists) I prefer muted neutral colours, Browns and off whites painted up in layers and quite filthy and worn, with one or two spot colours and metallics, which really stands out, though I like all my minis that way. At the end of the day, chaos works best when it is chaotic. So as well as Cadians look into getting loads of bitz. I know you asked a question about painting but those Cadians don't lend themselves to chaos without lots of work I know from experiance.

Traitor Guard colours

Hmm, well I have out some thought into their background. Essentially, they are a siege regiment that has been corrupted by Chaos while stationed on a planet. This happens a few weeks or maybe months before the time in which I display them in. So they would still have a lot their equipment, it wouldn't be too broken, and the chain of command would still roughly be there. An yeah, conversions, I have ideas for some of the models such as tanks or characters, the foot soldiers I haven't thought of yet, thought I have plenty of spare chaos bits lying around.

So you're shooting for tired without being broken? I'd go a muddy mustard yellow for cloth and dark steel. Then "tag" up everything with chaos-y scrawls. Maybe in a chalky white.

The following is Anja Wettergren's (of 'Eavy Metal) paintjob of a Korpsman, of which I have always been in love;

Spoiler:

To me it seems like a Dead/Rotting Flesh like green colour for the fatigues/coat, and black armour plates that have been weathered to an orange rust. Orange and green complement each other nicely.

Why not some simple greys. or neutral colors.

just avoid:
red
purple/pink
green
and blue/rainbow colored.

you can use some as spot colors which wouldn't be bad.

edit i second the mustard yellow scheme. reminds me of steel legion

So cream, off-white, ivory fatigues with some red blood and gore added as a spot colour that will really pop.

Have you try the custer yellow scheme? I did a few renegades in that tone and it looked the part. Backed up by fluff too from gaunt's ghost novels.
