[1500] - Grey Knights - VS cheesy Tau

Hello there.

Tomorrow I will face a Tau army, and my opponent has a reputation of a cheesy player. So I thinked about that :

HQ :
Brother captain, the soul glaive
Librarian level III, storm bolter, nemesis force sword.

Troops :
Terminators x 5, 2 falchions, 2 halberds, 1 hammer, psycannon
Terminators x 5, 4 halberds, 1 hammer, psycannon

Fast attack :
Stormraven, TL multimelta, TL assault cannon

Heavy Support :
Dreadknight, personnal teleporter, heavy incinerator, heavy psycannon
Dreadknight, personnal teleporter, heavy incinerator, heavy psycannon

For the remaining points, I am hesitating :
- interceptors squad with an incinerator : they move fast and can take objetives quickly.
- dreadnought multimelta and power fist. I would use "Skies of Fury" to pop him as close as possible to the Tau line then pop his smokes.

Brother captain and his termies in the stormraven, the librarian and his termies in first turn deep strike but I am not sure, it will depend of the deployment of my opponent and the mission.

Your opinion ?

I like the stormraven, but I would consider deep striking all of the terminators at once. The termies wont get out of the stormraven for a while and you dont want to feed your opponent 1 unit of termies per turn. It is better to have multiple high threat targets in his face on turn one so he is forced to choose what he needs to deal with.

[1500] - Grey Knights - VS cheesy Tau

Once you're in combat your day will get much better, so anything that can arrive turn one (nemesis strike force rule is wonderful here) and survive, is a good bet.

Termies are pretty survivable and very nicely priced, so I'd take as many as you can.

Deep strike is always a gamble but I find it can produce quite entertaining results!

So if I go to a full deployment on turn 1, should you sacrifice the stormraven to add a third squad of termies ?

[1500] - Grey Knights - VS cheesy Tau

No. Terminators against Tau are terrible.

They have LOTS of low AP weaponry (Riptides, Stormsurges, Broadsides, Plasma Suits), and their basic rifle is S5.
Termies go down to low AP and massed wounds, and Tau bring both those in numbers.

Leave behind all the termies. Take as many interceptors as you can, with as many incinerators as you can fit. Dreadknights also do well.

Exchange the BroCap for another Libby. Tau has zero psychic defense, Tau troopers have Armour 4, and so Cleansing Flame is just ridiculously powerful against them. Take the DLD for an extra chance at it and higher chance of casting.

GK cannot outshoot Tau. To win, you need to get into combat. That means presenting many threats in his face T1 so that, even if he kills two units, you still have at least two to charge with T2.

I can't stress enough how terrible Termies are against Tau. Don't take them. Do take a Shunt/Flame list.

It looks pretty good! Be sure to tell us how it goes

Rhinos aren't very good in general. You'd get further upfield in the Raven.

If you dropped the rhino and made a few other tweaks, you could even get a couple more Purfs and Combat Squad them into the Raven.

Or you could stick with the Rhino and get at least one or two turns of movement out of it.
