Greetings from the Great Plains!

I bring you glad tidings from the northern prairie. Been lurking at DakkaDakka for some time now but thought I'd get around to officially joining the community. I began gaming when my older brother ran a Basic D&D game for me and a friend when we were the tender age of 8. The first wargame I remember was Up Front! By Avalon Hill a few years later.

Some years later I joined my brother's AD&D group and met my painting mentor, Brian, who showed me the armies he was painting. Since then, I long harbored ambition to paint my own minis. Several years ago, I finally began painting and never looked back. Not prolific by any means but I feel I get good results. Check my gallery for some pics.

Currently playing Kings of War since collapse of Warhammer Fantasy. Also lucky to be part of initial playtest group from A Victory Awaits by MMP. My favorite wargame was and is For the People by GMT Games by the brilliant Mark Herman. I have big mini and board game collection but my pride is my burgeoning collection of new and old Wargames (I miss Avalon Hill.)

Helped found a gaming/hobby group in Sioux Falls called IONS and still going strong... www.ionshq.com

Cheerio denizens of Dakka!

Always good to hear from more tabletop gamers in Iowa! I'm from Cedar Rapids myself, other side of the state unfortunately. I've actually had a similar experience, though I got into D&D after playing Warhammer for years. I tried out KoW after the end times, but ended up settling on historicals with Bolt Action. I do have some friends in Des Moines who play KoW and have been looking for more players. I'll let them know about your gaming group.

Welcome to Dakka!

So still way the hell over there unfortunately. We actually have several Cons between Sioux City, Sioux Falls, and Brookings, SD. But IONS doesn't put on a Con, instead we've opted for a new model: the Gameday. Once a month, we were putting on entire day of all sorts of gaming. We even offer concessions like hot dogs, chili, pop, and other victuals. We also offer one or two Gamenights which are much smaller in scale by necessity. While the Gamedays were always on Saturdays and open to anyone, Sundays we offered a "Residual Charge" for IONS members only.

In 2015, we estimated IONS offered about 363 hours of gaming across 40 or so events. Equivalent to about 10, 3-day gaming conventions.

IONS has now scaled back full Gamedays to every other month to provide space for our members to also attend and support all other local cons. In the odd months we now offer IONS Exchanges with plenty of gaming but no concessions and slightly reduced hours.

Our last Gameday was last Saturday and my buddy put on KoW 10mm Romans vs Dacians with about 4400pts per side. ''Twas AMAZING!

Ok, probably more than anyone needed to know but there you go! www.ionshq.com
