Improving superglue strength - magnets falling off base

I have magnetised a number of my bases with rare earth magnets, bonded with superglue. I am finding that they are falling off (or to be more correct, are being pulled off onto the metal surface upon which I store the miniatures).

I was wondering whether there was a way to improve the bond strength (I have never had this issue previously - have found that superglue works just fine)?

Epoxy cement, such as Araldite. Much stronger than super glue. It takes longer to set, but that isn't a problem for your application.

Re:Improving superglue strength - magnets falling off base

I use normal super glue to stick them on and when they're dry I go round the outside of the magnet with super glue then put baking soda round it... Man they never come off and the resulting glue can be sanded/drilled or filed with no problems. It's rock solid

Re:Improving superglue strength - magnets falling off base

I kinda go the other route - I use weaker magnets

no need for rare earth strength when regular magnets will work fine and seem to adhere better with superglue (in my experience). Rare earth magnets are so strong they fight against bonds you create and you actually want *some* give on the surface you're storing your minis on so you can get them off again easily.

Anyway, just my two cents

Improving superglue strength - magnets falling off base

1. Use weaker magnets. No matter how strong the glue is, if the magnet is stronger, it will come off.

2. Take a metal file or something and scratch up the surface of the magnet that you are gluing (and the surface you are gluing it to). But especially the magnet, as that completely smooth surface of the coating doesn't leave much for the glue to grab on to.
