How to paint runes?

So Space Wolves have a habit of placing runes on everything. I'd like to paint them in a bright blue colour to make them stand out from the grey shields. What's the best way of painting them? Since when I paint the grey I usually spill it into the cracks.

How to paint runes?

The technique I used on my Sylvaneth was :
Base - Kantor
Shade - Drakenhof
Layer - Enchanted Blue
Layer White

Base the the whole ruin, then hit alot of the ruin with enchanted blue, but not all of it. Work this into all of the edges and extending out a good distance. Then use white in the corners and don't extend it out veryr far.

If you want an example drop me a PM and i will try and take a close up pic of one.

If you have an airbrush its a lot faster but not as neat and it will create an OSL effect.

Re:How to paint runes?

A couple of ways to tackle it.

You can use a light blue paint and thin it A LOT and then carefully touch the brush to the thinned paint and then lightly touch your paint filled brush into the crack your trying to fill and capillary action with pull the paint from your brush into and along the rune.

The other option is very careful edge highlighting with the lighter blue. The real trick to this is a very steady hand and almost no paint on the tip of the brush. With very little paint on the brush it won't spill into the rune.
