So when my FLGS got a flashy hardcover reprint for sale for $40 (which is actually downright reasonable by GW standards), I was tempted. And after a hard week of working overtime at my job, I decided to reward myself by buying it.

So how does it hold up?
Very well, actually. The story is solid and the art is often fantastic and really captures the feel of 40k. I also feel like they updated and improved the shading in some of the later sections, although that may be my memory playing tricks on me. It includes the entire Daemonifuge story, plus a little bonus story from an issue of Inferno where they did alternate universe crossovers and recast Ephrael Stern in Mordheim. The Stern in Mordheim segment doesn't really offer anything new story-wise, but visually it's cool to look at. There are still a couple typos that I'm irritated they didn't fix, but overall it's a very good quality reprint.

I am sad they didn't include more extras, such as commentary from the authors and artists. Aside from a little blurb before the Stern in Mordheim "Elseworlds" story, there's absolutely nothing except the comic itself.

Rereading it, this seems like a really good story for someone who has just started to dip their feet into 40k lore and knows the basics to read to immerse themselves deeper into the world. I think people with no familiarity with 40k whatsoever would be rather confused, but you don't need an in depth knowledge of factions and characters to get the gist of what's going on. It covers a pretty broad range of stuff, although admittedly there's not much here if you're not into Imperium, Chaos, or Eldar. Maybe if it had continued they would have brought in other factions, and the ending does leave the door open for the story to continue, although it's also a satisfying enough conclusion that you don't feel cheated or left hanging at the end.

Did anyone else get this reprint? What are your thoughts on it? On any of the other old Black Library graphic novels?
