Advanced Auspex

Hey guys,

I'm toying around with a few ideas for Chapter Relics that aren't weapons or armour, and I decided I'd try to come up with a better version of Auspex. Here's what I came up with:

Advanced Auspex

A model with and Advanced Auspex can use it in addition to making a shooting attack in the Shooting Phase. With the action of its use, it can target any unit. If the target unit is an allied unit, their Cover Save is increased by one. If the target unit is an enemy unit, their Cover Save is decreased by one.

In addition: Once per game, the modifiers on the Cover Save is increased to two. If this is activated and then used on an enemy unit with no Cover Save, the bearer and all allied models firing at the target may re-roll failed To Hit rolls of 1 and any Blast Weapons fired at the target may re-roll the Scatter Dice (but the 2D6 must also be re-rolled).

What are people's thoughts on this? What would you put the points cost of this Chapter Relic at?

Or is this just a bad idea?

Cheers guys

Advanced Auspex

First thing that comes to my mind that this should definitely NOT stack with a regular Auspex or even an Omnispex from the Skitarii book.

I guess you figured that the new and improved Auspex would have some sort of jamming or decoy function and that would grant the increase in cover saves? I'm asking this because I don't think that a small hand-held device would make the walls around you any thicker even in the 41st millennium.

Advanced Auspex

Definitely not. I'll have to add that condition in.

Yeah, I figured that if they can detect life signs and what not (and thus give an excuse to decrease the opponent's cover save), then - as you said - why can't it jam other signals, too (this increasing allied cover saves)?

Plus it's a Chapter Relic, so why can't it be an Auspex on the roids? I mean, most Relics (for SMs and other races) that I'm familiar with are essentially regular equipment on roids haha

Re:Advanced Auspex

Personally, i believe that only 2 Auspexes should stack.
Here is my visualisation of how an Auspex works
For example, a normal Auspex shows a basic outline of the enemy

Advanced Auspex shows an outline and a heat signature

So, only the Advanced Auspex and a normal Auspex can stack.
However, as per the rules, as many normal Auspex as you want can stack, but only an Advanced and a normal can stack: More data input means nothing

Just my view
