Dark Angels Flyers

Hey there!

I want to add some flyers to my Dark Angels Force, just for the fun and because the models are cool ;-)
The Nephilim is often called the worst flyer in the game and I just dont know why.
The Dark Talon is not talked about at all, but I dont see any value in its bomb.

I seriously need something to controll Airspace (or at least be somewhat relevant against a flyrand list with flying bugs and even more flying flyer stuff that flies around vectorkilling my precious bikes ;-))

Any advice for me?
I also thought about just getting 2 Mortis Dreads...

Dark Angels Flyers

The Nephilim is supposed to be an air superiority fighter but comes stock with a gun that can only glance AV12. Compare the firepower and the resilience to that of a Vendetta or a Heldrake, both of which cost the same amount of points.

The Dark Talon seems to be the more useful of the two, with blasts being able to hit flyers nowadays it might have more AA firepower than the Nephilim. Not entirely sure about that though, the new flyer stuff is a bit confusing TBH. The Dark Talon's main gun was utter garbage in the previous codex but thanks to the buff it might be good now for something other than trolling your opponent. If you manage to create a vortex in the middle of his army and bomb his CC deathstar some fun times might be had.

If you want something that just counters flyers effectively and reliably, don't get either of the DA planes. Get a Deredeo Dreadnought and/or a Sicaran battle tank. The Sicaran becomes a great AA tool when you buy the Battle of Sarosh Legacy of Glory for it. If facing more than one flyer then the Sicaran won't be enough so the Deredeo might be a welcome addition to your roster.

You heard the Nephilim was the worst flyer back when it was with the 6th edition codex. It's no longer the worst but it's not good either.

And yeah the best DA anti-air is still a forgeworld dreadnought.

Does your meta have a lot of flyers? they're generally pretty rare nowadays. And most armies can just ignore flyers and focus on objectives.
