As the title suggest I'm looking to put together a crack unit of blood thirsty, gut ripping, beer swilling Space Wolves. The aim is to have quality rather than quantity with the aim of speed and devastation. This is my first venture into space wolves so could use some advise on the following lists and options...

List 1 (with 2 options)

Wulfen murderpack (476)

I like your use of Wolf Claws on the TWC

I like your use of the Dreadnought in Pod. personally, i'd go with Lucius pattern pod to keep him alive.

Herald is expensive... imo go WGBL + Claw or the ap2 Relic, or try for Champs of Fenris to get 'Krakenbone Sword' for @i5 AP2.

having SS on -every- TWC might be a bit much, but that just depends on who you play against.

I'm one for variety.
Having dual Wulfen, not -bad- but podding in one into cover then creating a zone between them and the podded Dread is rawesome.

I'd razorback or pod in the troops, imo. I've had a lot of fun with a Stormwolf w/ Iron Priest and 5 Servitors + runepriest, and whatever else to throw in that batch of stirfry. Super Cheap, and way mean. Servitors with servorarms strike w/ 2 attacks and S6 AP1, 2+ wounding and 4+ glancing. OUCH for just 10pts a pop.

I've been working -hard- on a list of pretty much CC w/ shooty Space Wolves, trying time and again from many different formations accross the 40k 'verse, and this is my current rendition - if it strikes your fancy to see another in pursuit of this Space Wolf CC army:

Good advice!!

Just to start what is the Lucius Pattern drop pod?

Looking at the two lists above i'm very much leaning towards the first. Realise that I would be losing the Counter charge rule but the +1 WS to the TWC and WG is a nice bonus plus I am not having to take the tax of the land speeders and the long fangs.

Plus just realised that I could take a squad of Wolf Guard on bikes for an elite 'fast attack' all hitting on WS5 with two attacks which is rather sweet. Also perhaps dropping one dreadnought and changing Harald to a battle leader would free up enough points for the iron priest/runepriest/servitors option that you mentioned... hmmm, sound better?

The servitor option is cheap, good for tackling less than CC units or squadrons of vehicles. Especially when later in the game they've been overlooked and bam they hit hard!

IMO wolf guard are best as combi, but yeah they are good in CC too

The big CC units at the moment that are "Meta" are:
- TWC
- Wulfen
- Mounted IC's
- taking those IC's to the next level with allying for Stars ( http://space-wolves-grey.blogspot.com/2015/09/space-wolves-dark-angels-allies-army.html?m=1 )
- Grey Hunters (some say of the best marines, if marines are your thing)
