Necron Reclamation Legion - Preliminary Planning

Heya, people.

After wracking my brain for so many months trying to figure out how to make a human army play the way I want it to, I’m finally reaching the point where I’m just going to give up and try something completely different for 40k. Just ditch most of the stuff I’ve already built up and start over, planning everything out to make a more cohesive army, both in appearance and play style. I’m hoping to do lots of mod work, with just about nothing being vanilla.

That said, I’m going to try Necrons, as they’re an army I’ve never considered before, and I’ve already got some cool ideas brewing. However, with the initial parts I’ve picked, I’m having a little trouble coming up with the rest.

The only thing I’ve determined is the base for the warriors. I want to use these bodies:
http://dreamforge-games.com/collections/infantry/products/eisenkern-panzerjagers-10-female-tank-hunters
… with these heads:
http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=103

I realized that the Dreamforge bodies have this kind of segmented look where the armor isn’t, so I figured I could pull off a neat effect by painting the carapace a lacquered black, and the underparts/joints gold and brass to really push the Anubian look. The Immortals should be easy enough using most of the same parts - scrounge up some bigger shoulder pads and guns. But this comes to the point where I need help and advice.

I’ve got a shopping list of things I’m trying to find conversions or kit-bashes for. Also, while this is the modelling section, I would like advice one what does and does not work in this Necron formation - I do NOT want to build an entire army only to find out it’s only barely playable, and I simply do not have the time or mental focus anymore to do the research. But I digress; here’s the list of the kinds of things I’m looking for, and what I’ve already considered:

Overlord - Since this should be a one-off model, I’m not too concerned about finding lots of boxes to match parts up. I could easily scrounge up bits to put something together. Possibly order a couple extra Dreamforge bodies to work with.

Lychguard - Tentatively looking at these: http://dreamforge-games.com/collections/infantry/products/eisenkern-valkir-assault-trooper-redo
I could hack off the hands with guns to make them look more appropriate. I’m not sure which loadout works best in game, so I’d also like advice on that.

Immortals - Same as the warriors for the most part, though I’d like advice on shoulder pads and weapons to swap out. And, again, I need advice on the loadout.

Warriors:
Head - http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=103
Body - http://dreamforge-games.com/collections/infantry/products/eisenkern-panzerjagers-10-female-tank-hunters
Gun - This I cannot figure out just yet, but whatever I’m getting I’m going to need a lot of it. At first I thought of using some of those arm/gun combos from Puppets War, but they only come five to a pack. I might try looking up bits on ebay for just the guns, as the arms on the Dreamforge bodies seem pretty accommodating. I also need to know how many warriors is too much, and how many is too little - I was thinking 60-80 might be a good number?

Tomb Blades - This one has me stumped. The original models look a little silly on their own, and would not match the look of the rest of my proposed army at all. They’re also such an unusual size for something on flight pegs, and I’ve scoured the GW site for anything similar-sized to no avail. I’d prefer a kitbash if possible with these. And on the gaming end, I was considering actually filling out the units of these to act as objective-grabbers. Good idea? Bad idea?

Monolith - It’s a box, and there would be few enough of them that I’d be willing to scratch build them myself.

Dedicated Transports - Now this gets interesting. I’m still up in the air about these, and the only thing I’ve decided is that I don’t want to use the vanilla kit for the Ghost Ark. I’d kind of like an aesthetic of… well… it’s hard to explain now that every example flew from mind, but imagine the kind of spaceship that was popular in older, grungy sci-fi films; lots of long, rectangular plates jutting forward along the sides of the ship, with bits, antennae and spires sticking out parallel to the length of the hull. I’ll have to come back to these later.

Other - There may be other things that go well with this formation, but odds are I don’t know about them, or how they work. I’ve only JUST dipped my toes into this whole thing.

Overall Theme and Fluff - Originally, I wanted to do this army as the work of a Heretek Archmagos or Logician cult, seeing as most of the bodies would have a vaguely Imperial look, but depending on what turns up for the other models, that theme is subject to change.

Sorry if this comes across as clueless and incoherent - I’m trying to type all this up during what few moments I’m allowed to sit still anymore. But any advice on potential kits to use, especially for the Tomb Blades, would be much appreciated!

Necron Reclamation Legion - Preliminary Planning

Bit of a development, and something far more specific to ask about! I've been stumbling across these in my exhaustive searches: http://www.boardgames.ca/reg/zkac102_reg.jpg

I'm thinking with some light modification they would make excellent Annihilation Barges! Unfortunately, these are from the now defunct Rackham miniatures. Anyone know a good place to get this specific hover trike?
