Modern Day City Rooftop Boards

Hi there fellow Wargamers! I'd like to share a little project that I have been working on and have just launched on Kickstarter to try and get funding for it - that might be of considerable interest for anyone whose right into epic rooftop battles and modern day city scenery but has never been able to find Printed Modern City Rooftop Boards for RPG and their tabletop games. I've created two giant 27x18" detailed city roofscapes with vents, fans, ducting, stairs, satellites dishes, air conditioners and more perfect for using in RPG's AND DISPLAY for your airborne miniatures such as jets, choppers, SAMS, paratroopers, special ops etc, etc. Considering the lack of modern day printed rooftops - it seemed like a good thing to work on and offer up. I hope you agree, and will support me to make these first sets so that I can offer a wide range of new add-ons in future such as new buildings, new arrangements, monuments, hi-level security areas, runways and more - and that you please will help me spread the word to other RPG fan groups or anyone or anywhere you know that might be interested in getting hold of some Modern Day City Rooftop Printed Board Designs. Thank you!

Here is the link - questions welcomed!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gametilewarehouse/the-manhattan-project-modern-roofscapes-for-rpg

I love the idea, and the artwork is nicely done... But there are some perspective issues with them that are messing with my head.

These sorts of maps are usually done from a direct top-down view or with perspective from the centre of the map, so that they look 'right' from any orientation. You have a very definite 'right way up' on the building sides and some terrain elements, while others like the stairs and low walls are directly vertical, which looks off.

Good luck with the Kickstarter, though. Always nice to have more map options out there.

It's true there is a definite orientation - but as an initial attempt I think its pretty good, serviceable and can only get better with public support and funding for development of such projects. With nothing else out there, its a stepping stone that I hope will get support for the idea, and I will improve execution, expansion as I go along.

Kind Regards,
Kris

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In regards to the art-style - a traditional Isometric top-down view would be lacking the effect of the cascading side of the buildings, the tops of which would simply appear as squares floating in space (If done well) - to give the necessary illusion of height I found it necessary to skew the Isometry to give a more realistic impression.

These mats help join distant buildings to each other and create extra surface.

3 x 5x10" mats: 1 x Two Buildings, one above the other to create Tiers, 1 x Rooftop Carpark with Ramps, 1 x Industrial Robotics Building with Retractable Roof Doors

5 x 5x5" mats: 1 x Blank Extension, 1 x Cracked Roof with Visible Offices Below, 1 x Electrical Field and Bomb, 1 x Toxic Spill, 1 x Small Penthouse with Pool.

2 x 8x8" mats: 1 x Blank Extension, 1 x 3-tier rising skyscraper.

2 x 9.5 x 8.25 Hex mats: 1 x High Security Corporate Rooftop, 1 x Luxury Penthouse.

I will be starting work on these today and should be finished in a few days time.

Kind Regards,
Kris

The first is a city in flood in the wake of a tsunami and the second is a true isometric map with no orientation. This means you cannot see the sides of the buildings or objects and the view is directly top-down. The True Isometric also has a layer of smaller buildings directly beneath it to indicate industrial density. This offers more playing surfaces, jumps, gaps and a different concept.
This brings the total number of map options to 6.

There are also lots of extras now completed.

Kind Regards,
Kris
