Magnetised wings

I have a fantasy model that I want to have interchangeable wings. I was going to use magnets for this purpose but was wondering whether there was a technique for making the point where they join appear seamless?

Unfortunately the way the wings are made I can't cut them off at the base (and so the line of the cut will be partway up on the wing, rather than being flush against the body of the monster). Any thoughts?

If you can drill a hole into the wings that can fit then that'll do well, it's what I've done with my Daemon Prince's wings.

If not that, then how's your sculpting?

What's the model? It really depends.

Usually you have a model that has a natural join and you just drill a hole for the magnets. If there's not, you can build up greenstuff around the magnet on one side, put the model together and then build up the other side with greenstuff as well to get them to match almost perfectly.

Seamless? You're always going to be able to see a joint if you get close enough to it and examine it closely enough. It takes me ages to fill a glued joint perfectly enough that it can't be seen at all, you're never going to achieve perfection if you plan on pulling the sections apart. You might be able to hide the joint between scales or fur so it's very hard to see though, depends on the model.
