Where to buy? And Looking for Advice

I was wondering where one might acquire a good looking metallic crimson color? I haven't really been looking at the Citadel paints due to trying to hobby on a budget, but if there is a good one there maybe I'll give it a try. Does anyone have any idea and could offer a good type or maybe even a method to make it look like it's metallic?

Also, what's a good undercoat/base coat color if I was looking to paint a Helbrute the color scheme of the Emperor's Children (Purple primary)? I currently have a Krylon black paint+primer, but am trying to figure out what's a good undercoat color that wouldn't change the tone of the purple too much.

Lastly is there a good tutorial video for painting weathering or battleworn details onto vehicles for novices learning miniature painting?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance

If you wanted to make something look metallic, you could basecoat with your chosen color (crimson), then make a thin wash with metallic silver and brush it over the top. The color will show through if your wash is thin enough. I have done this in the past with metallic copper and brass too. (ok, maybe this is a "glaze", but you get the idea.)

To prevent your purple from getting too dark, mix up a 1:1 purple and white base coat and apply that before applying your purple. This will make your top color really pop out. If that's too bright, use less white in the mix.

For weathering, here have a whole bunch of links!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMK_lZFYbv8
http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2003/01/stuff_eng_tech_afv_weathering.htm
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Tank%20Weathering
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/671407.page
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/690986.page

Hope this helps.
