I am a PC gamer in the line of RPG's and Strategy (turn based, and more the line of Total War too). Loved the TW: Med2 mod for Warhammer. Played some Dawn of War 1 and 2, and while I loved the 40k world the click-fest "strat" was just not my thing. A while back I picked up a niche game called Mordhiem: City of the Damned for PC. Holy hell I was hooked. I got to get personal with my Skaven and still love playing that game....and a little TW: Warhammer too.

So I figured since I read/watched a lot of lore on my beloved Skaven I would try to find a cool little model to sit on my desk. But where do you buy these models? I looked up Skaven models in San Antonio, TX and wow...there is a Games Workshop here. Cool, Ill drop by and spend $5-$10 on a cool Skaven model. I mean...its a tiny plastic piece right? I learned that is not the case. I also learned WH Fantasy was gone and there were only a few single Skaven models for $23-$34 bucks. WHAT?? And I have to paint them?? But the dude at GW kept steering me to the Age of Sigmar starter set. But...there are no Skaven...and I have no idea how to play a TT game. And why would I play $125 for a AoS set....without Skaven....and then buy hundred dollars worth of paint for it? No thanks. I left.

A few days later I went back on a whim to "browse". I came across the Dark Vengeance set. I loved the look. Browsed the 40k section and was interested. Watched a few videos of people playing and it looked like fun. Decided I would buy a small box a few days later, and try to paint. Read about the factions, the lore, etc. etc. Decided Necrons seemed neat, and easy to paint. I would like to paint a few of those and if I liked it I would make a small army of them. BUT WHAT???? A starter Paint+ Model set only has Space Marines or Stormcast? Bleh...whatever give those 3 Space Marine models and lemme try it out.

Well, I enjoyed it. Paint was relaxing and my kids liked the models and my wife was pleased I didnt have my PC headphones on.

My 3 SM models turned out "OK" for what I had to work with....small jars of paint and 1 brush. Well damn now I want to get better and paint a small army. Tutorials, videos, how-to's, and lot of links to this forum, and purchased a SM tactical squad. But I dont care for any SM chapters in particular though. What??? I can make my own? Choose my own colors? Spent about 6 or more hours on the paint builder thingy trying to find a cool scheme. Decided on an Orange/Gray colors for my SM. Ok then, buy some paints, brushes, a palette, glue and tools for modeling. Used one of the starter models to test the colors (After a dip and scrub in Simple Green).

Happy with the results Iwent to GW on a Saturday to paint and get some tips. Got my test SM painted the way I liked it. Bought the paints I needed and the next day painted 3 of my guys. Loving the look so far, but I know I am not very good, but that's OK because I want to get better. They are not complete, but dang near.

I was asked by the GW dude "Ummm do you just want to paint or actually play the game??" My response was "both". If it takes me 6months to paint my army I am fine with that. I am not in a rush. I dont assume that everything that I paint is going to be perfection, but as long as I am happy with my own standards I dont have a timeline to get them on a table. Not only that, I dont know a single person who even knows what WH is. I am not looking forward to playing with strangers....so no rush lol.

Hell I dont even have a codex or rule book yet. I am sitting on a SM Tact Squad, and a newly purchased Terminator Squad with a Commander. I figure thats an OK start and next purchase with be a codex so I can build a coherent army from there.

After a 3 models almost completed and the rest in various states of assembly I realized I should have added some extras them like purity seals, ammo packs, etc before I primed them.

Is there an easy way to add purity seals and whatnot to a model after its primed and painted? I was told plastic glue is a no no for painted surfaces. I painted some seals separate for some practice and they came out pretty good. Good enough that I wish I could place them on my models! How/can/should that be done?

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

That said, about 80% of what i paint is painted in batches and then glued together, so that's certainly an option.

Parts won't fall apart if you handle them with care.

The seal is so small I am not sure how to go about removing the paint from the shoulder pad where I want to place the purity seal.

Partially unfold a paperclip, dip the end in to the glue then transfer to the back of the seal. Using the paperclip this way means you won't get glue all over your model.
Other tips include not using GW glues or brushes. They're overpriced and not the best.
I use Revell Contacta & Humbrol Liquid Poly cement for plastics & unbranded superglue from my local model shop.

I bought the GW plastic glue because I was there...and it has a cool needle style applicator.

Ill grab some super glue from the store and use the paper clip. Sounds easy enough.

I bought a few GW brushes, again because I was there. I also bought a Windsor Newton Series 7 size 0 brush. Come to find out it was the wrong kind, and the bristles are too short.

You can also make it a family night event, since your kids seemed to like the models. That will give you some one to play some games before you go to the GW store to play some strangers.

You should post your pictures up, that will let us see where you are at, and anything you can do to help improve. You are on the right track with looking at how-to-videos and coming on forums like this.

That Series 7 brush should be perfect, and 1 or 0 is a good standard size and you can pretty much paint a model with just that. That is the best you can buy as well.

As for your purity seals, just take your X-acto knife and scratch just a small amount of paint off, doesn't have to be the same size as the was seal on the purity seal, and that will be enough for the plastic glue to do its thing and bond the parts together. ]]> http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/preList/695081/8745349.page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/preList/695081/8745349.page GMT
I want to use a purity seal to fix/cover-up the part of the eagle on the left side where the paint globbed on the SM on the left. Also add one to the SM on the rights shoulder.

Obviously they are not done and I still have some work to do. Any input on what needs to be improved?
