So far, I've completed my Gorepack and gotten the obligatory Possessed, and am going to pick up the Start Collecting: Daemons of Khorne at my next trip to the store for my Juggerlord and some summonable letters/skull cannon. Yes, I need soul grinders and bloodthirsters, but I'm not there yet!

The spawn are cheap blood tithes, moving up with the flesh hounds to get in the way and die for Khorne. The Lord and a pack of hounds are hunter/killers, with the 'zerkers being a fun and fancy-looking distraction. The bikers run tank hunting. The Possessed will be thrown at the nearest squishy target while acting as blockers for my backfield. The 'letters will either secure objectives or charge some marines for killing/dying purposes. The cultists, being largely ignored, will try to be a minor nuisance to whatever comes close while holding objectives and otherwise being completely ignored by my opponent. Their champs are also backup options for Daemon Princing/spawnhood if all the other champs/bloodreapers die first.

The Mayhem Pack will hopefully live up to its name, dropping in as close as possible to the enemy position and acting crazy. I know everyone craps on Helbrutes, but I think they're fun and versatile, especially if they deep-strike together and roll on the Crazed table every turn. Double-shooting reapers and heavy flamers is a lot of fun, Rage is always a plus, and the "Blood Rage" result is a lot less of a nuisance if they've already deep-struck into the thick of things and don't have to worry about running.

I suppose I could bring other things, but the tax I'd have to pay to bring my Heldrakes in is a bit steep, and I only have 2 defilers and a single 'fiend as possible war engines, neither of which seem inspiring. Bringing more troops is a possibility, but seems a tad redundant. I think the Helbrutes will do just fine.

Any thoughts?

Good starter list. I'm a firm believer of running barebone squads but as many as I can fit.

For example making a 4th dog squad out of the 24 you are running. That earns you an extra blood tithe if they get cut up. The only time I run more than 5 dogs is maybe for the squad I hide my juggerlord in. Consider 3 groups of 5 and 1 squad of 9

People on this forum seem to like axes of khorne maybe it's just me for the same points I'd rather run a power fist or goredrinker. Both great options. And they provide better utility in my eyes. Even the two alternates get you ap2 if you need it and even kills with the lightening claw boosts the Goredrinker.

Not saying my theory is correct but constructive criticism to give you some different point of views. Good luck with the army!

I find that packs of 5 dogs just die too quickly, which sounds nice tithe-wise, but if a pack can get some kills and THEN die (which they inevitably do, because I find my opponents focus-fire them as quickly as possible), I get a double-win from using them. I might try min-squads again, as my experience with them is still very limited, but my thinking is that one more blood tithe from my own units isn't as good as a potential 1-3 blood tithes from my dogs actually killing a tac squad or something before they go. Although, admittedly, the tipping point in my mind is the fluffiness of packs of 8!

I'm still trying out the different weapons combos for my lord, I will probably try Goredrinker next. I guess I just like being able to attack at initiative AND get AP2 in the all-important challenges. The lightning claw here is really just for the extra specialist weapon attack.

Anyways, thanks for the input!

I dislike the blood host detachment in general if you do not plan to spam Soulgrinders. You are just loosing too much points and most importantly your cultists and blood letters and zerkers are losing objective secured.

Now I do not know who initially thought that Axe of khorne and lc is a good combo since in my opinion it is not. You either go for pf + lc or you go pf + KolRath axe of ruin. If you do not have models of daemon princes and blood thirsters you can even go pf+lc + blood forged armor but your best loadout for a lord is the pf+ Axe of ruin. Just gives you a lot of shananigans.

The mayhem pack I'd go with out flamers and I'd go with multi meltas since you need some more anti mech.

The Zerkers even tho they are subpar I love them myself I never run them except in a fist of khorne but I do love them but I see the axe of khorne as a needless investment and I do not think you need the combi flamer on the champion. You are way good agains hordes as you are you can kill any infantry.

Now if I have to tweak the list it would look like this :
Gorepack
3 Chaos Bikers - melta bombs, 2 meltaguns (101 pts)
3 Chaos Bikers - melta bombs, 2 meltaguns (101 pts)
8 Flesh Hounds (128 pts)
8 Flesh Hounds (128 pts)
8 Flesh Hounds (128 pts)

Mayhem Pack
3x Helbrutes -Multimelta and powerfist 300

Combined arms detachment :

Chaos lord - pf + kolrathaxe of ruin, sigil, juggernaut - 230

troops :
2x cultis 8men - 58 each
Berzerker squad + rhino with dozer blades + melta bombs on champ - 207
blood letters + reaper - 85

fast attack:
Spawn
Spawn
Rhino + dozer blades - to transport the blood letters since you have csm you must have a second rhino if not they are good in fast attack especially with blood letters making them objective secured when carrying the letters and turn 3 your letters can join the charge. I love letters in rhinos they do a lot of work!

This puts you at 1630 points depending on what you got in your csm army you can add a csm squad with meltas with a rhino you can put a lot of things.
If I have to ditch something tho it would be the mayhem pack since they do not provide you with blood thide points I'd take a chaos knight as a lord of war since you'd really need something that can stomp nowadays. Now if you are planning on taking blood thirsters unfortunately they are way too picky to run they are just like mauler fiends you must have 2 to run them sufficiently.
I am talking about the D thirsters I dislike the other 2. Since KdK is allready great at killying everything except the big scary stuff.
