[500] - Space Marines - Iron Hands

I'm currently trying to decide on which Chapter of the SMs I want to use (Salamanders/Iron Hands). I thought I'd make a list for the IHs and get some critique on it. My opponent will most likely be playing Imperial Guard. I want it to be something I can use later on in formations so I decided to use the formation detachments in BattleScribe. It probably should be noted that I don't have much experience with playing the game. I've played the stripped down version that comes with the starter set and that's about it. So I'm pretty clueless. As another side note, I've bought the models for the Reclusiam Command Squad so If possible I'd like to keep it, but am willing to hear better alternatives

Cheers!

Chapter Tactics [Iron Hands]

+ Formation (500pts) +

'Reclusiam Command Squad (280pts)
····Chaplain
········[Bolt Pistol, Crozius Arcanum, Melta Bombs]
····Command Squad
········Apothecary [Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, Narthecium]
········Veteran [Bolt Pistol, Chainsword]
········Veteran [Bolt Pistol, Chainsword]
········Veteran [Bolt Pistol, Chainsword]
········Veteran [Bolt Pistol, Chainsword]
····Razorback [Dozer Blade, Twin-linked Lascannon]

'Suppression Force (220pts)
····Land Speeders
········Land Speeder [Multi-melta, Multi-melta]
····Whirlwinds
········Whirlwind [Hunter-killer Missle]
········Whirlwind [Hunter-killer Missle]

It looks a little odd to see a 500 point list like this.

One thing to keep in mind is that 40k is an objective based game. And you list is very light on scoring units. Decent chunk of firepower though.

You have spent a lot of points on vehicle upgrades I don’t think you really need, while skimping on places you could use them. HK missiles are not the best, especially on WWs. You want to be putting those big blasts down on troops, and not shooting tanks. If you do want to add an extra gun, a spare SB would actually want to shoot the same things as the WW launcher. But you should probably just skip them.

Your command squad is bare-bones for CC. You probably want a power weapon or two, and possibly a SS to soak AP3+ fire. The champion gives you some nice little extras for the cost of the sword. Exactly what to kit them out with depends a lot on your points and mood. CC is not the best option to start with, but is iconic and fun. Magnets are a good idea if you are just starting out, especially for units with a ton of options.

One thing to consider is where you want to be at higher points. Especially if you are running formations.
