[2000] - Skitarii/Inquisition - The Children of Atom

Dear Dakkanoughts,

Over the last few months I have been working on a fallout themed Nurgle Daemons and CSM army - ghouls (as typhus zombies/plague bearers), giant ghouls (as spawn/beasts of nurgle) and even gianter ghouls (Great Unclean one), radroaches (nurglings) alongside battered and rusted fallout style power armor (plague marines and typhus). The list has been fun and thematic, and I have ended up buying some chaos cultists and skitarii to try and incorporate more fallout elements - rag tag, irradiated raiders, cultists and survivors. Having toyed around with a few ways of doing it, it has sort of grown into a stand alone army of it's own: The Children of Atom.

I realise this section is for lists, I just wanted to give a bit of background to the idea - it is fluff driven, but I hope that it can really work effectively using it's theme. The idea is a heretical cult that has arisen on an imperial world that was destroyed by exterminatus (nuclear bombs) and worships the power of the atom. The main manifestation of this theme tactically is a combination of Xenos Inquisitors with Rad Grenades, and the skitarii vanguard, turning anyone in combat with them into a puddle of radioactive goo!

Any ideas for improving the list tactically, whilst keeping within the radiation theme, are very welcome. I am kitbashing the tits off this, so I am pretty open to suggestions for other models. Any other radiation-themed ideas I may be missing (even from other codexes) are welcome.

Inquisition 518

Xenos Inquisitor, Rad Grenades, ML 1, Force Weapon
70
Retinue - 3 Crusaders, 3 MM Servitors, 2 Jokaero, Chimera with HBs, Psybolt Ammo (These guys are all robots - protectrons with melta-hands, Mr Handy's as Jokaero, and kitbashed "shield bots" as crusaders!)
205
Xenos Inquisitor, Rad Grenades, ML 1, Force Weapon
70
Retinue - 3 crusaders, 5 death cult assassins, Rhino
170
Psyker, 2 Acolytes
18

Skitarii 735

10 Vanguard - Alpha with Taser Goad, Phosphor Blaster, 3 Plasma Calivers
205
10 Vanguard - Alpha with Arc Maul and Arc Pistol, 3 Arc Rifles
175
5 Rangers - Transuranic Arquebus
90
2 Ironstrider Ballistrae - cognis lascannons
150
1 Onager Dunecrawler - Neutron Laser,
115

Cohort Cybernetica 745

Stock number of models, With autocaeudus on dominus, and 2 robots with all phosophor weapons.

Tactics wise - the whole army is advancing forward, except for the rangers, ironstriders and dunecrawler, who are shooting from the back field. The army should threaten most targets at mid range, and the inquisitors and their retinue want to ideally counter-assault any melee that the vanguard find themselves in - their rad grenades stacking with the vanguards aura to lower MEQs to toughness 2, or 1 if both inquisitors are present. This doesn't help with instant death, but can allow the death cult assassins to make mincemeat of most units. The servitor -jokaero squad obviously does better shooting from it's chimera, but they will be a priority target, so getting them stuck into combined assaults mid-late game might not be a bad idea.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh, and I can drop 1 or more of the inquisitorial warbands and inquisitors, or the robot formation to play at lower points, this is just the set up for the full army I am building.

Love the theme! Link to thread with pics? Or poast some here.

Cohort Cybernetica is my favorite formation. But it's so many points, you'll want to design the rest of your army around it to compensate for its weakness: mobility.

The Cohort should anchor your tactics as well. Identify a place near the center of the board with line of sight to most other objectives. March those robots over there, then switch to their shooty protocol for the rest of the game. The rest of your army should grab objectives or run interference.
