Questions from a new 40k player looking at harlequins

I've looked at 40k for many years. Was a modeler/painter. Then started age of sigmar. I think I'm now ready to jump in to 40k. My store has an escalation league starting. I always loved the harlequin models so I picked up death masque. I was going to do a void weaver with prismatic.

No idea how to best loadout the two troupes. Same goes for the two bikes. I have 500 points for the first three weeks. Plus 160 for hq. I was told I could use eldrad. Any tips? Or suggested builds for sky weavers also. Also if some of these aren't idea for 500 I could buy a box of something also.

Here's what I have
1 Eldrad Ulthran
- 12 Harlequin Players
- 1 Death Jester
- 1 Voidweaver
- 2 Skyweavers

Questions from a new 40k player looking at harlequins

Doesnt the box come with formations that make certain weapons mandatory? Its possible that they cost too much though.

The thing about harlies is that they hit like a ton of bricks, but are still T3. Give them minimal upgrades to keep the price down. Also try to keep the all weapons in the squad the same.

For the players, I would just throw 1-3 HC, or maybe HK into each 6 man troupe. Keep the skyweavers stock.

Questions from a new 40k player looking at harlequins

Well harelys are one of the worst armies to begin with, they are squishy and very, very easy to mess up, which one error will generally cost you the game since they are very expensive models at t3, 5++.

But they are my favourite as well and since you already bought them I would recommend a few things, Stay away from fusion pistols, 3" melta is terrible. Shadowseers are your best friends. Since you have no transports or mages, your games are basically going to be an automatic loss until then, they will get mulched by most armies so I would only pick 1-2 special weapons in min squads of 6 troupe, master with power sword, on the bikes you will want the zypherglaves as well.

I have a shadowseer also. Forgot to put that in. I was told they would be tough to get right before I bought them. I wanted the painting challenge and even in fantasy I play multiple armies and some are super squishy so I get that it will but tough

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Fisheyes wrote:
Doesnt the box come with formations that make certain weapons mandatory? I'm guessing those are suboptimal and mainly used for the campaign? Well would it be better to just use the boxed set to learn than the upcoming escalation league? Or would buying some elder and use the harlequins as a detachment in the Ming run be better

Bolters can take out our vehicles with ease and even lasguns will mulch out troupe (wounding on a 4!)
