At what point do you need a bigger table, and at what point is it apoc?

So at what point value do you need a bigger table?

My standard game is 2k for me, and im working on making it 3 k. When i played even an 1850 game with an ork player, it felt a little crowded, this was on a 6x4. I think at 2500 i might be pushing it, at what point would you play on a bigger table? And how would you do it? 8x4? or customer L shape or H shaped table?

Follow up, at what point would you say your game is Apoc scale?

My group only uses it if we're planning for an Apoc game other wise we don't bother. It's more like extra rules now than before. Previously Apoc was recommended for games at least 3000 points or more.

3000pts is about the max youd ever want to do on a 6x4, often even 2500pts works better on an 8x4 than a 6x4.

Once you start hitting those levels, games start to take 3+ hours, and then its really getting into Apoc territory

At what point do you need a bigger table, and at what point is it apoc?

Apoc used to be defined as 3k+.

As for table size it depends on the armies; I've seen 2k Guard armies that would have trouble deploying in 6'x4' and 3k Inquisition that wouldn't be out of place on a 4'x4'. There's some amount of trial and error required to figure out what the appropriate table size is.

At what point do you need a bigger table, and at what point is it apoc?

The guideline that GW once gave, way back in the day, was to allow two feet of table for every 500 points.

The game scale has changed somewhat over the years, the addition of the Reserves rule allows bigger armies to squeeze onto smaller tables, and the specific armies involved can make a difference, but I think that's still a pretty good guideline.

Re:At what point do you need a bigger table, and at what point is it apoc?

Above 1500, maybe 2000 with lots of reserves or expensive single models, a 6x4 table becomes too cluttered and you should move to something bigger. Above about 3000 you're playing Apocalypse, though you probably shouldn't use anything besides the Apocalypse formations unless you don't care at all about playing the game and just want to roll dice and see what models you should put back in their boxes first.

At what point do you need a bigger table, and at what point is it apoc?

6x4 is good for 1500, 8x4 good for 2000. Apocalypse is anything of 3,000 points or more and really needs a colossal table like some of the ones at Warhammer World.

Generally, the bigger the table, the more manouvering and tactical decisions there are - and the more cover the more decisions need to be made.

Well, we play games up to 2000 or 3000 pts at standard tables: 4'x6'.
For 5000 pts, games we play at one and a half standard table: 4'x9'.
For apoc games, 10,000 pts, we play at two standard tables: 4'x12'.
